The public is invited to a spectacular event when Joplin hosts the Day 3 Finish of the 2020one Great Race. The 2021 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty; the world’s premiere old car rally will bring 120 of the finest road-worthy antique and classic automobiles to 6th and Main Street in downtown Joplin. Activity at the finish line begins at 4:45 p.m., Monday, June 21.... The event is free to the public and spectators will be able to visit with the participants after they have parked. Kids of all ages are welcome to climb in the cars for a first-hand look or take in the nostalgic feel. Cars built in 1974 and earlier are eligible, with most entries having been manufactured before World War II. Come out and experience the grand collection of automotive history. Get up close with a 1916 Hudson Hill Climber, get a selfie with a 1928 Ford Model A, or reminisce on what movies the beautiful 1917 American LaFrance Racer or the 1973 Cadillac Ambulance remind you of.
An old 1939 Texaco gas station structure that sits near Route 66 is now shining with life once again. https://www.fourstateshomepage.com//gearhead-curios-in-ga/
We were so excited to welcome our first tour bus to Joplin and Route 66 since 2019! Thank you Putnam City Retirees Travel Club for finally making it here after canceling in 2020. And thanks to Toyea Youngblood at Branson Ticket & Travel for making this happen! We toured City Hall and the Thomas Hart Benton exhibits, had a photo op at the Route 66 Mural Park, and then did a windshield tour of Murphysburg- Joplin, Missouri, followed by lunch at Red Onion Cafe. Everyone had a great time! #JoplinRocks #TrekJOMO
No we are not changing the iconic 1964 Corvette in Route 66 Mural Park. We just wanted to get your attention. We are announcing that the Oscar Mayer Wienermobil...e will be in Joplin this weekend. The public can get their photo taken with this oversized staple of family picnics and get a Wienermobile whistle. Friday, April 9, in Cunningham Park, 26th and Maiden Lane and again, Sunday, April 11, in Ewert Park, corner of 7th Street and Murphy Blvd. Both visits will be from 11:00-4:00. The Wienermobile is one of a fleet of motor vehicles shaped like a hot dog on a bun which are used to promote Oscar Mayer products. The first Wienermobile was created by Oscar Mayer's nephew, Carl G. Mayer and hit the road in 1936. Wienermobiles drivers are known as Hotdoggers and hand out toy whistles, called Wienerwhistles, which are shaped like a Wienermobile.
