You can also take your old pumpkins to the compost site on the hill past the recycling center! Or, if you know someone with livestock, the animals would LOVE to eat the pumpkins as well!

About once a week we collect the cardboard compactor from a local department store. That's a lot of cardboard!!

Fall and winter weather is approaching and some of you may be ready to fire up the wood heat. Just a reminder about how to safely dispose of your ashes. NEVER place hot ashes in your trash container!! You can easily start a fire that way that could melt your container or even spread to your home! The best way to dispose of ashes is to let them sit in a metal bucket until they are 100% completely cool, then bag and throw them away.

PSA: PLEASE!!!! DO NOT bleach your pumpkins to make them last longer!! We've seen this tip being shared all over social media this season! Please remember pumpk...ins are food, especially to lots of the wildlife! Deer, squirrels, raccoons, possums, mice, rats, chipmunks, birds, and even bugs. We deliberately stick them outside somewhere where wildlife can access them and we DO NOT want our wildlife eating bleached pumpkins!!! Instead, try using vinegar. 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water will work just as well. Thanks!

I don't know about you, but the gorillas are my favorite animals at the zoo! Pay attention to the last part of their post. Another great reason to recycle your electronic items! The Rolla Recycling Center takes "anything with a cord" and lots of items without! For more information call 573-364-6693.

Over the last few months we have been receiving more and more feedback from our driver's that residents are not bagging their trash. Here are a few reasons why you need to bag your trash: 1. Trash is disgusting. 2. There is a city ordinance requiring all trash to be bagged. 3. When trash is loose, it tends to blow all over the street and yards when it's being dumped. ... 4. Bagging your trash reduces the risk of our workers being exposed to certain diseases that may be present. (Remember when we had no recycling workers because of exposure a few weeks ago??) 5. It's just the right thing to do. See more
