Rock Eddy Bluff Farm Cabins 04.01.2021

Icy beginning of the year at Rock Eddy Bluff.

Rock Eddy Bluff Farm Cabins 21.12.2020

So the pics got dumped from my album somehow when I tried to add the cabin link to my post..... so reposting Rock Eddy Bluff Farm Cabins Some pics from our we...ekend. Don had no clue where we were going. He only knew it was in the Ozarks. I love surprising him. It's been years since I've been able to. I know a few of you are curious about the cabin. We stayed in the Line Camp Cabin at Rock Eddy Bluff Farm. The farm sits on the Gasconade River (they do have free canoes available to use). Yes it was truly off grid.... No electricity or running water. Yes that means no shower or flush toilet. There was a "path to the bath". Yes we used it and it was cold. No nothing attacked us in the middle of the night . We used oil lanterns for light at night in the cabin.Yes there was a wood stove... and yes of course we used it. There was also a huge stack of quilts to stay warm with. Yes it was in the middle of thick timber. You couldn't see a single building or hear anyone. Sitting on the porch swing at night, we could see one pole light that was across the river probably 2 miles away. It. Was. Glorious. We did go to a nice steakhouse Sat night. One of the best steaks we've ever eaten. Other than that meal, I cooked on the antique gas stove or over the fire outside. Coffee was made in the old fashioned percolator and was delicious. It took Don a bit to settle his brain honestly. I surprised him with a book (The Holy Road... It's the follow up to Dances with Wolves) He actually read a book for the first time in probably 20 years. We spent hours reading on the porch swing together and in the Adirondack chairs under quilts with our coffee. Again...GLORIOUS! We went for a walk Saturday night and saw a nice size buck on the path we were walking. The hosts were a couple with 3 young daughters and 2 very sweet dogs. They have taken over running the place since his parents have retired. They greeted us like they had known us forever, but after they settled us in, they gave us total privacy. We loved the experience so much, we are planning on going again next year and staying in the off grid log cabin. It has a million dollar view of the valley floor. They also have 2 larger cabins with full electricity, running water, and wifi if off grid isn't your thing. All of the cabins are secluded. We went on a 2 mile hike on Sunday. It followed a creek and led you to a breathtaking natural bridge rock formation. We packed a picnic lunch and and ate by the rock bridge. While we ate, we were joined by a young couple that said they were on a date. We watched the woman's young daughter build a rock stack with tiny rocks. She was having so much fun. I shared our Doritos with her...she got so excited. It was so nice to just be in nature and listen to the giggling as she watched tiny fish in the creek. We ended up leaving earlier than we wanted on Monday. We wanted to try and beat the worst of the storm. It's funny... On the way home we were discussing which of our friends would and wouldn't stay off grid.... The list of who wouldn't stay was much larger than the list that we thought would. We know it isn't for everyone, but it sure was perfect for us.

Photo was taken at the canoe landing. The Long Island to the right makes this a slough, which opens into the river at the tip of the island. The bluffs tower above Rock Eddy on the Gasconade River below. Home- www.rockeddy.com

Line Camp Cabin today: To say Rock Eddy has been wonderful is an understatement. I feel my body so much more relaxed. I feel my soul renewed and though I will go back to the same relenting world, I will use this experience as my truly happy place to evoke the calm that I attained here in these woods." Thanks Jackie!

Today I had my Iphone as we were cleaning Aunt Phoebe’s Perch on the ridge overlooking the river valley.
