Don't you just love a surprise followed by a challenge?? Yea, me too! Well just a couple of months ago, one of those walked thru my door and I got to gain some new knowledge and sharpen my skills. When the gentleman brought me his gun, at 1st glance I thought "Colt Woodsman"... wrong! It was a Hartford Arms 1925... Never heard of it? Well it's got a interesting history...it was created by a former Colt employee, Lucius Diehm, in 1925... wonder where he got the idea? He applie...d for a patent in 1921 which was awarded in 1924 and production began in 1925. Well, Mr. Diehm fell on hard times during the Great Depression and consequently a gentleman by the name of Carl Swebilius who owned a small company called High Standard Manufacturing Company which made tools used in the manufacture of guns bought Hartford Arms for $800. Owning the Hartford 1925 patent, Mr. Swebilius began manufacturing the High Standard Model A. That may be more than you wanted to know but it was sure helpful to me in trying to find the parts I needed to fix that little pistol. Obviously, Hartford Arms 1925 parts are not readily available... but High Standard Model A are pretty easy to find. Sure enough I was able to use the Model A parts in the 1925 and make it shoot again... A great ending... learned a bit and a happy customer. Got something interesting in the back of your closet? Bring it in and we'll figure it out! See more

Recently, an early Harrington Richardson Model 199 came into the shop... nice revolver but wouldn't function because it was missing the lever & spring that advance & time the cylinder. No problem...except absolutely none of my sources had the parts or even knew if they would get the parts. Man, I hate to just give up on something just because I can't find the part so... what did I have to loose, I decided to attempt to fabricate the parts. Well, long story short, 2 failed attempts but 3rd time was the charm and YAY, a totally functional Harrington Richardson Model 199 and a satisfied customer. Love it when a plan comes together! Bring me what you've got and we'll see if we can make it right!
HAPPY 2019 FROM RKO SERVICES! LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING OLD FRIENDS AND MAKING NEW ONES IN 2019.

DID YOU KNOW... THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TOO... 1364 - First recorded use of a firearm. 1380 - Hand guns are known across Europe. 1400s - The matchlock gun appears.... Before the matchlock, guns were fired by holding a burning wick to a "touch hole" in the barrel igniting the powder inside. A shooter uses one hand for firing, and a prop to steady the gun.The first device, or "lock," for mechanically firing a gun is the matchlock. Powder is held in a "flash pan," and ignited by a wick, or match, in a movable clamp. Both hands remain on the gun, vastly improving aim. Early matchlock guns are extremely rare. The matchlock shown here was made around 1640, and is typical of the muskets used by militia in Colonial America. (Original photo posted was incorrect... not Rick's fault... lame marketing person )
