Cole County is beginning to see an increase in COVID-19 cases. These cases seem to be stemming from close contact with other positive cases, travel, and mass ev...ents. In the last week we have seen an increase of 70 cases, and of these 70 cases 22 of them have been fully vaccinated. The manufacturers of the COVID-19 vaccines available to the community were not EUA approved for the purpose of preventing individuals from testing positive for COVID-19. The goal of the COVID-19 vaccine is to decrease the severity of symptoms of COVID-19 and decrease the risk of hospitalizations and deaths. Those we have spoken to who have been fully vaccinated are experiencing mild symptoms. As summer continues in full swing, we need to be mindful of our activities, remember how COVID-19 is spread, and continue doing ALL the things to protect ourselves and our loved ones (even if fully vaccinated). Wash your hands frequently, especially before eating or drinking. Take your vitamins and eat a healthy well-balanced diet. Stay home if you are sick. Distance as much as possible. 6 feet or more is preferred. If you are not fully vaccinated, wear a mask when distancing cannot be achieved.

Tonight, our Habitat homeowners heard from City Code Enforcement Inspector, Dave. He was very informative and taught our future homeowners about everything from 12 inch grass violations to how to store their trash cans. #TheMoreYouKnow #ToolsForLifeClasses (And Dave is technically on vacation this week, so extra appreciation to him!) Plus the amazing Jami Wade stopped by to tell everyone about the Food Bank and encouraged our families to utilize them when needed to help feed their families!

This morning, our Executive Director Susan attended the United Way press conference where they announced the recipients of this year's Community Support grants. For many years, we have been working on being able to purchase a construction truck, and today United Way awarded us $25,000 to help match funds for one! We are so excited because it means staff and volunteers no longer have to use their own vehicles for our work, and it solves the insurance liability issue of having volunteers pull our job trailers. It will be so helpful and something we have desperately needed in our 29 years of home building! Thank you, United Way!
