Rain, rain, go away/ We'd like to ride some bikes today! Our newest #RideKCBike tech, Michael G., is out moving bikes, checking batteries, and maintaining the fleet in between downpours today because he knows riders have places to be and things to do, regardless of the weather. THANK YOU, and welcome to the team, Michael! (Wanna be like Michael? We're still hiring! http://ridekcbike.com/now-hiring-operations-associate/)
We call it sweat-free biking. Or "biking that feels like it looks in the movies." Or just plain fun.
It is a BEAUTIFUL day in Kansas City. This would be a great day to play hooky and go ride bikes.
We've spent our year trying new things, expanding our horizons, going the distance, persevering, choosing the road less traveled, making new friends, and living the best life we could manage. Happy New Year! 1. Free rides for healthcare workers & small businesses 2. RideKC Bikes in Lenexa 3. RideKC Bikes in JoCo Parks and Rec 4. System updates with new racks and a new app 5. Prospect MAX bikes 6. New e-bike shipment 7. Sanitizing bikes
"My sister and I started visiting local parks during the pandemic as a way to me more active, visit while socially distancing and get fresh air and exercise.... Fell in love with the bikes at Black Hoof Park and have been back a couple of times to ride just to enjoy the parks/trails. Looking forward to next spring to ride in more places around the city." --RKCB rider (Give us a high five if you can spot the heron!)
Some good news from last year: #RideKCBike went dockless, new cities adopted Complete Streets, more communities added bike lanes. Thanks for the feature, 41 Action News - KSHB-TV! https://www.kshb.com//kansas-city-bike-share-program-goes-
"There are so many hills in my area (midtown), that I felt generally restricted as to where I could ride a bike. The electric-assist bikes allow me to ride anywhere I want/need to go and I don't have to worry about being completely disheveled/out-of-breath when I get there!" --RideKC Bike rider
It's been a a few weeks since we've had icey streets, so here's a quick reminder. Take it slllloooowwwww and keep an extra eye out for pedestrians, other bicyclists, and drivers. Slick streets make stopping and turning more difficult for everyone!
The panel agrees: biking in the cold is not only possible, but it can be really fun! While you're waiting for the ice to thaw this morning, settle in and let Kiley, Mitchell, Cheryl, and Jennifer talk you in to bundling up and getting out for a ride. https://youtu.be/u8DS_F41B8M
If they didn't take a RideKC Bike, over 30% of respondents said they would have driven a car to their destination. We are so pleased to offer every single rider exercise, cleaner air, and a bit of that intangible bikey joy that has not ever been experienced driving in circles around the block, looking for a car parking space.
Did you hear? The City of North Kansas City passed their Bike Master Plan! NKC installed the region's first fully-protected cycle track on Diamond Parkway, and is continuing to lead the region for bike-friendly facilities. We are so happy to be serving NKC residents and visitors!
In 2015, our pedal bikes were tethered to fixed stations with no parking flexibility. In 2020, we have classic pedal bikes and e-bikes that use a dockless lock-to system that allows you to explore our region like never before: https://dashboards.mysidewalk.com/bikewalkkc-orga/mobility

Bikes are healthy, sustainable transportation, but we're taking it one step further: bikes and stations that we no longer use are finding new life with bike share programs in Iowa, Texas, and California instead of a landfill. These blue racks are part of our system updates, which have also include a new RideKC Bike app to replace the Drop app and a dockless conversion for our pedal bikes!
