Richland, Tri-County Fair

Raising our families in this community truly is the biggest blessing to all of us. Some may say the 2020 Tri-County Fair was unlike any other simply because of COVID.but anyone present during Saturday’s youth livestock auction would beg to differ. It was not the record setting prices of our youth livestock projects or the sheer number of buyers (that all happened too), but something truly magical that happened at the conclusion of the sale. The story starts with a donation j...ar set out by Hayden and Landree Hedges during the fair’s Friday night truck and tractor pull. Hayden and Landree wanted to do something to help a wonderful young lady in our community who was recovering from her most recent surgery, Trisha Homan. The girls asked folks for a donation on their way through the concession line. To say an idea was sparked is an understatement. On Saturday morning, Cooper Witt’s grand champion hog was purchased by Roy and Shirley Mitschele during our youth livestock auction. At the conclusion of the sale, Roy announced the hog would be donated back to the sale and whatever the hog sold for would be donated to the Homan family. Ken Struckhoff quickly announced an anonymous donor would match up to $5,000 in any donations raised for Trisha. Wow! In a few very quick minutes, the hog was sold not once, twice or three times but six times over! An amazing group of buyers easily surpassed the $5,000 matching mark in a blink of an eye. Unbelievable! Over the course of the next few weeks, additional donations continued to roll in and today we proudly presented the Homan family with a check for $17,000! That’s a wrap on the 2020 Tri-County Fair! From the gospel concert, wonderful food vendors, amazing carnival, exciting track events, awesome car show, great weather and most importantly a supportive community; this year’s fair was truly a success. A big thank you to the City of Richland and Park Board for allowing the use of their facilities and grounds, as well as the clean up completed prior to the fair.... As we begin planning for 2021, we’ll share meeting dates to this page. New members are always welcome.
