I had the pleasure of going to the Outer Banks, North Carolina with friends just two weeks after Hurricane Matthew had hit back in October 2016. The water was churned up that week. The surf was up and the waves bigger than normal. Several off-duty lifeguards from Corolla Beach Rescue decided to hit the waves and go surfing. I have to give them props for their bravery to get out there, as the water was definitely not safe for inexperienced swimmers. One person died that week in the same vicinity where I shot these photos. Another person had been rescued and transported out by ambulance.
