Alright! Let’s talk about basements. There are two types: 1) those that have leaked, and 2) those that will leak. Like a sandcastle on the beach, don’t dig a hole in the earth and expect water to not eventually get the better of whatever you’ve constructed. Whether your foundation is cement, block, stone, or brick, the reality is you cannot stop moisture entry... you can only hope to contain it! ... To that end, many systems have been developed to protect basements from moisture damage, but none so effect as that shown in our recent listing in Clayton. This ThermalDry Wall system works in combination with a perimeter drain, sump pump, and constantly running dehumidifier to keep a basement dry, insulated, and carpenter-ready for future finishing. And what’s the fun of having a dry basement if you don’t make it a super cool man/woman/gender non-specific cave like the second photo featuring a great finished basement from a home we sold last year!? If you are considering finishing your basement and want some tips, or are in search of a new home that has the perfect area for a finished basement space, give us a call

A lot of the conversations we are having at the moment have to do with the outlook for 2021. And though none of us have a crystal ball with which to peer into the future... here are the stats I keep an eye on to help me inform my clients. Despite initial concerns of a COVID economic crisis, STL is fairing well with relatively low unemployment rates, several industries competitively advantaged by the pandemic, increasing home values, decreasing housing inventory, and unheard o...f mortgage interest rates that are expected to hold under 4% until mid 2022. For the first time in decades we are experiencing slight upticks in population growth from neighboring states, and those returning home from stints on the coasts. This combined with a 12-year low in available housing is going to keep home sales very competitive for the bulk of 2021. If you need expert guidance with your real estate needs, reach out to us! @whgstl

10 years ago, I walked in the door at @laura_mccarthy_realestate and met my business partner Warner. We pretty immediately recognized in the other, a similar desire for hard work, a passion for helping people, and a proclivity for direct, unfiltered advice. Since that time we have built the top selling real estate team in St. Louis’ Central Corridor, with over $350 million in sales and having helped over 640 buyers and sellers, and joined the best brokerage in town @dielmann...sir. 2021 is off to bang and we will be up to big things! But most of all, we are excited about how many great new people we will get to know, help along their way, past clients we will reconnect with, and new-comers we will introduce to St. Louis! If you’re in need of our expertise, let us know today! We would love to help you! @whgstl @dielmannsir @realtorsamhall #realestate #topproducerrealtor

Love it when our growing little real estate and home design family empire gets a little press coverage! I recently had the pleasure of giving an interview to my favorite STL Biz Journal reporter about the outlook on the 2021 Real Estate market and one of Emily’s recent projects was featured in the Ladue News! The kids asked, does this mean we are going to become like Studio McGee? And, I asked, do we need to hire a publicist!... Emily, rightfully, told us all to settle down! #hardworkmakesthedreamwork

Some thoughts remain true despite the passage of time, the creation of new technology, or the evolution of society. Often the hardest thing we can do is to open ourselves up to understanding someone else, or a group of people with whom we do not agree. I am frequently guilty of this.... But how can understanding or change happen without the open and honest exchange of ideas? I am so grateful to have had a Grandfather who loved breaking the long-standing, family tradition of not discussing religion or politics at the dinner table (much to my Grandmother’s dismay). Though I did not agree with him on much of anything, his openness to discuss such things and desire to understand others’ points of view is what motivated me to work in politics as a younger man, follow it so closely throughout my life, and support those who choose to dedicate their lives to public service today! The greatest legacy that the great #MLK left us, was the lesson to love one another like brothers, regardless of differences or disagreements... and love comes first from understanding! Take a moment today to think about how open you are to hearing others’ ideas, and maybe more importantly, how prepared you are to argue the virtues of your convictions?!
