No one knows your body better than yourself, if working outside please take it easy.

Nearly 40% of traffic fatalities in Missouri are related to excessive speed. Summer is made for slowing down, make that the case when driving, too!

If your plans to celebrate ringing in the new year include alcohol, please DON'T let those plans include getting behind the wheel. Plan ahead for a designated driver! We wish you a healthy, happy and safe 2021. Happy New Year!

Holiday Safety Tips: Shopping A lot of us are shopping online more than ever. When you do, use familiar websites. Look for the lock- never buy anything from a website that doesn't have SSL encryption installed. (The site will start with HTTPS instead of just HTTP.) Check your bank and credit card statements regularly. Credit cards offer more securities than debit cards. When you head to the stores, shop during daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, go wi...th a friend or family member. Dress casually and comfortably. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry. Do not carry a purse or wallet, if possible. Never leave a purse or wallet unattended in a shopping cart. Always carry your Driver’s License, State Identification Card or other picture identification along with necessary cash, checks and/or a credit card you expect to use. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Pay for purchases with a check or credit card when possible. Consider alternate options to pay for your merchandise, such as one-time or multi-use disposable credit cards or money orders, especially at online stores and auction sites. Keep cash in your front pocket. Notify the credit card issuer immediately if your credit card is lost, stolen or misused. Keep a record of all of your credit card numbers in a safe place at home. Be extra careful if you carry a wallet or purse. They are the prime targets of criminals in crowded shopping areas and mass transit such as busses. Avoid overloading yourself with packages. It is important to have clear visibility and freedom of motion to avoid mishaps. Plan ahead by taking a friend with you or ask a store employee to help you carry packages to the car. Stay alert to your surroundings. Beware of strangers approaching you for any reason. At this time of year, "con-artists" may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings. Save all receipts. Print and save all confirmations from your online purchases. Start a file folder to keep all receipts together and to help you verify credit card or bank statements as they come in. Wait until asked before taking out your credit card or checkbook. An enterprising thief would love to shoulder surf to get your account information. Tell a security guard or store employee if you see an unattended bag or package.

****CAPTURED 12/31/2020**** Hi all!! Special Announcement! We are working with Belton AC and KC Dog Trappers to collectively capture a very skinny, skittish, Bo...xer-type dog running between the areas of QT and Firestone. There have been multiple sightings today as she has been on the move. **PLEASE DON'T ATTEMPT TO APPROACH OR FEED** We are keeping each other updated as calls come in and traps have been set. She needs to be hungry to go into the traps and when approached, she will run, pushing her further out of the area. We greatly appreciate all the reports of sightings! Thanks! ~Jamie, ACO 950

Holiday Safety Tips: Protect yourself and your account information at the ATM If you must use an ATM, choose one that is located inside a police station, mall, or well-lighted location. Withdraw only the amount of cash you need. Protect your PIN by shielding the ATM keypad from anyone who is standing near you.... Do not throw your ATM receipt away at the ATM location.

Holiday Safety Tips: Children We know the way we do most every day tasks is very different now in 2020 than it used to be, however it's always good to have a refresher with your young children so they know how to stay safe in public places and what to do if they become separated from you. If possible, leave small children at home with a trusted babysitter.... Teach children to stay close to you at all times while shopping. Teach small children their full name, address and telephone number to give to officers or security. Never allow children to make unaccompanied trips to the restroom. Children should never be allowed to go to the car alone and they should never be left alone in the car. Teach children to immediately inform you if a stranger is bothering them. Teach children to go to a store clerk, security or a police officer and ask for help in case you become separated. Have a plan that includes a pre-designated meeting place if you become separated.

Thank you to Charlene R., Lorna S., Michael H. and Matt D. for your recent donations to the Raymore Police Department's Shop with a Cop program! Each of these donations were made in Lt. Aly Abdelgawad's name! Lt. Abdelgawad makes a personal goal of soliciting at least $1,000 in donations for Shop with a Cop every November and he's certainly on his way! He's also looking much scruffier these days, as he's foregoing the razor in November for this cause. Thanks for your support! Learn more at www.Raymore.com/ShopWithACop

Holiday Safety Tips: Strangers at Your Door Be aware that criminals sometimes pose as couriers delivering packages. It is not uncommon for criminals to take advantage of the generosity of people during the holiday season by soliciting donations door-to-door for charitable causes although no charity is involved.... Door-to-door solicitation is not permitted in Raymore without the proper permit. (Door-to-door solicitation is not permitted at all in Raymore currently.) Donate to a recognized charitable organization through proper channels. Notify the police if there is a suspicious person in your neighborhood or at your door. Non-emergency line: 816-331-0530 Always call 911 in an emergency.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN! Raymore police are growing out their Santa beards in November to raise money for the 2020 Shop with a Cop event. While this year's program will look a little different and extra precautions will be taken in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we know that there are plenty of area children that are in need of a bit of extra help and we're determined to make a difference for even more families this year.... Each participating officer must donate at least $25 to the cause to nix the razor for the month. The money we raise will be used to allow area children to go holiday shopping with Raymore police officers. Each child is paired with an officer and gets a $100 spending allowance, with the only requirement being that they must purchase at least one gift for themselves. While it's really all about the kids, our officers DO enjoy a little friendly competition in seeing who can raise the most money in his or her name. Are you ready to help us? Donations are tax-deductible through the Raymore Community Foundation, the City's 501(c)3 organization. Make a donation by mail, in person at City Hall or online at www.raymore.com/ShopWithACop. Don't forget to let us know which officer you're donating in honor of! THANK YOU for your generous support of this awesome program!

Time for a little #ThrowbackThursday! As you know, our Raymore Police take children shopping every December for the Shop with a Cop program. Each November we grow out our facial hair and raise funds for this program and last year was our biggest year yet! We raised $4,500 enough to take 45 children shopping! This year's Shop with a Cop will look a little different, but we're still making it happen. We're dedicated to brightening the holidays for the children in our communit...y who need it most, especially with the additional challenges 2020 has brought to so many. So.... keep an eye out for more information in the next couple weeks about this year's Shop with a Cop program and how you can help!
