Quite Contrary Farmstead

Sylvia Margot Brown finally joined us earth-side March 3, weighing 7lbs6oz and measuring 20in long. Yesterday was my 33rd birthday, which was made infinitely more special as we spent the day celebrating not just my birth, but also the birth of this sweet little nugget. We are all doing well, and taking turns soaking up all that newborn goodness. #onebighappyfamily

We said farewell to one of our own today. Bear was a loyal friend, a fierce protector, and an integral part of our farm and family. He will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered. RIP good buddy, may you find peace and light in the realm beyond.

So many changes are on the horizon for our farm and family, the what-ifs and unknowns and inner doubts are almost enough to completely paralyze me at any moment--but then I consider the trees, and how they don't wonder whether shedding their leaves is the right decision or not. They just stand bravely as the wind slowly winnows their old skins away. So, here's to standing bravely, trusting in the wind, and not clinging too closely to my old skins as they fall away and blanket the ground... #allthefallfeels

Wild persimmons are an all-time favorite around here. There exists a brief window between bitterly underripe and completely rotten where these reach their apex, and their flavor is so sweet and concentrated that it's like eating a fruit whose insides are already made into a delicious and almost tropical-tasting jam.
