Past science suggests that any health impacts from prolonged home confinement are likely to be greatest among older people. In multiple studies, when adults of any age become more inactive because of illness, injury, or requests from scientists, they rapidly lose strength and endurance and develop early signs of insulin resistance and molecular changes related to muscle loss. Some experts have begun to worry that this scenario is playing out among older people during the coro...navirus stay-at-home orders. We came up with some tips to help you stay active: 1. Walk around during a phone call. Or when you watch television, get up during each commercial break and stroll from room to room. 2. For upper-body strengthening, raid the pantry. Cans of soup or fluid-filled water bottles provide sufficient resistance for arm curls. Grip those objects with your arms by your side, palms up, and slowly bend your elbows to curl the can or bottle upward. Lower and repeat. 3. Any time you visit the kitchen, slip in a few countertop push-ups. Position yourself a few feet away from the counter and lean toward it, hinging from the ankles, back straight. Grasp the edge with straight arms and bend and straighten your elbows. If you prefer group activities or exercise variety, for a limited time, we are offering a free 7 Day Trial of our online workouts. Every month we select a member that we believe embodies all of the values and standards we have for our brand and exemplifies an ideal member. This month, we have selected, Tim Rodgers. He came to Pursuit Fitness because he knew how important strength training would be for him to improve his health and to enjoy his hobbies during retirement.... We were able to give him what he needed in our semi-private training. We designed a program for him that helps him reach his goals and one that he is able to see results and reap the benefits of being fit and active. President Trump announced recommendations to limit social gatherings to 10 people or less so effective starting tomorrow we are limiting class sizes to 9 people. We are doing everything we can to keep our facility clean and practice social distancing during the sessions. We modified all of our workouts this week so that members do not have to share equipment. Each person has their own designated space at each station (6 feet or more) with their own equipment to use until that... station is finished. After a piece of equipment is finished being used we are disinfecting it thoroughly before another person can pick it up. We want you to know that we are taking your health very seriously and we plan to stay open with these new modifications unless we make an announcement otherwise. Additionally, we want you to know that WE ARE PREPARED for the worst-case scenario of having to close our doors. Our team has met numerous times over the last couple of weeks to put an action plan in place if this were to happen. We plan to immediately launch a virtual coaching program so that our members can stay focused on their health while we are away from each other. We know that you came to us for guidance, support, and accountability and we have plans to make sure you don't lose any of that if we had to take a break from seeing you in person. We love and care for all of our members and no virus is going to keep us down! We will get through this and we will become BETTER TOGETHER!
