Pure Water is open 10-6 Monday through Friday and 9-3 on Saturday. We are taking every precaution for our customers at this time. As in any flu, common cold, or illness, being hydrated is very important! Our bodies depend on it! Many times the elderly must be monitored to make sure they remember to drink plenty of water. Let's look out for one another and help others in any way we can this flu season.

Chloramines also have been known to aid in leaching lead from old pipes. When this happens it raises the levels of lead in the water.

Your greatest exposure to chloramine in tap water is through bathing and showering. Showerhead filters will not remove chloramine. A whole house or whole apartment filter with an extensive carbon filter and a reverse osmosis or distiller and whole house carbon filter is necessary. Sink filters only work on cold water. A whole house filtration system is necessary to process all water.... Chloramine leaches lead from pipes and lead-tin solder from pipe joints. Lead poisoning can cause neurological damage and health problems, even death in young children. Chloramine can pit pinholes in copper pipes. Leaks from the pipes can cause toxic molds and endanger the health of people. Chloramine can corrode rubber plumbing parts such as toilet flappers, and de-elasticizes plastic polymer pipes, leaching carcinogens into tap water. The thousands to tens of thousands of dollars in plumbing repair costs caused by chloramine are passed on to property owners. Chloramine can kill fish, amphibians and water-based reptiles and marine invertebrates. Chloramine enters directly into their bloodstream, gills, or skin, literally suffocating them to death. Chloramine entering streams, ponds and water main breakages can cause environmental damage to fish and marine life. The Canadian EPA has deemed chloramine "toxic" to the environment (CEPA 1999).

So, why are municipalities adding chloramine's to our water? I have been posting the past few days about the health effects. Below are characteristics of Chloramine that EVERYONE should be aware of! Characteristics of Chloramine: Chloramine is a less effective disinfectant than chlorine. The World Health Organization (WHO, PDF 145 KB) says that "monochloramine is about 2,000 and 100,000 times less effective than free chlorine for the inactivation of E. Coli and rotaviruses, ...respectively." Chloramine does not dissipate easily compared to chlorine. Chloramine stays in the water distribution system longer than chlorine. Chloramine is difficult to remove. Chloramine cannot be removed by boiling, or by standing uncovered. Some disinfection byproducts of chloramine are even more toxic than those of chlorine, i.e. iodoacids. Chloramine vapors and its disinfection byproducts can accumulate in indoor air and concentrate in an enclosed area such as a shower stall, small bathroom, kitchen, or apartment. See more

Chloramine related health symptoms: RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS sinus and nasal congestion sneezing... coughing choking wheezing life-threatening asthma-like symptoms bronchial and emphysema-like symptoms SKIN SYMPTOMS rashes and red burning skin intense itching dry, chapping, flaking, cracking skin welts and blistering skin with scarring and pigmentation peeling, bleeding lips, dry mouth and throat dry eyes DIGESTIVE DISORDER SYMPTOMS irritable bowel symptoms-like reactions (IBS) acid reflux-like symptoms The public was not consulted or involved in the decision to use chloramine in place of chlorine. The city says that chloramine is "safe" even though no one knows if it can cause cancer. Are we to be used as guinea pigs to see if chloramine in our water can cause health and other problems?

In the last few years municipalities have started "disinfecting" the water with chloramine. In the next few days I will be posting facts about why this should be a concern. Although, we can definitely help you with a water treatment system, you should be educated about what is IN the water that comes to your house. Just because your municipality has a water read out and tell you that your water is safe doesn't mean that you shouldn't know ALL the facts. The city of Indepe...ndence Missouri,has recently added Chloramine as a way of disinfecting the water. There is no research to confirm that it actually disinfects at a higher level. There are many facts, however, that show that it can be very damaging to your health! My mother taught me that from a young age that mixing ammonia and chlorine as a cleaning product can be deadly. Bleach and ammonia are two common household cleaners that should never be mixed. They react together to form toxic chloramine vapors and may lead to the production of poisonous hydrazine. What It Does: Chloramine burns your eyes and respiratory system and can lead to internal organ damage. If there is enough ammonia in the mixture, hydrazine may be produced. Hydrazine is not only toxic but also potentially explosive. The best-case scenario is discomfort; the worst-case scenario is death. How can anyone think that putting this in drinking water could be helpful?
