We’ve seen an influx of reports from folks who have been duped by scammers into buying gift cards to pay a debt, a fine, a fee, a service, etc. Please understa...nd that no legitimate business, organization or law enforcement agency prefers or accepts gift cards as a form of payment. We post about this often and usually we get comments such as: Well duh! People fall for that? Isn’t this obvious? I got a call like this and I know to hang up We still have people falling for it. Still. Please tell your family members, your friends, your neighbors, your co-workers, your dogs and cats, your mailman, your pizza delivery guy, your acquaintances, your Uber driver, everyone you come across. All joking aside, tell the elderly. They don’t have Facebook. They don’t know that buying thousands of dollars in gift cards usually involves a scam. They can be easily convinced by experienced scammers that they need to go to the local store and buy gift cards for payment of criminal fines, back taxes, fees to fix their computer virus, etc. Let them know this is a scam. If they ever have questions about what is real and what is possibly fraud, have them call us. We hear about every scam out there.
