PR Project athletes Brittany Stewart and Dave Benson each ran the half marathon on a hilly course at the Quad Cities Running Festival over the holiday weekend. Brittany came in 8th overall female while running a 1:38 and shaving nearly 7 minutes off of her previous best. Incredible performance! Dave has been focusing on ultra marathons over the last 12-18 months and made it his re-entry into the half marathon with a great performance. He ran a 1:54 while coming in second in ...his age group. Great running by both of you! They each have some good goal races in the Fall to work towards so you'll be hearing their names again soon!

Athlete Spotlight: @aj_kosty Amber ran the Going The Distance Run For Brain Injury 10K over the weekend and came way with a big PR at 54:30 and second in her age group! Amber has been running about 35 miles per week lately and is seeing her running fitness increase consistently. Many small races to come along the way in route to a big half marathon in October for Amber. Great work, Amber!

Athlete Spotlight: @beardedrunnerkc Scott recently ran the Flash Dash 5K in addition to a couple races over Memorial Day weekend. Scott has big race goals as we work towards the fall and he has already shown me that he's ready to put in the hard work to achieve them. Awesome job Scott, I'm excited to see everything over these next several months!

Athlete Spotlight: @michelle.ingersol Michelle went to Manhattan for the Bill Snyder Highway Half Marathon and nabbed a huge 3 minute PR with a 2:09! The conditions were warm and humid on race day, so Michelle will see even much faster times in the months to come. Next up is Hospital Hill this weekend -with the big goal being Twin Cities Marathon in October. Incredible job, Michelle!

On Saturday, this awesome group came out and got a 5k time trial in to see where their fitness stands heading into the winter. We set up a simple out-and-back 5k course on Cliff Drive and everyone got to work. For some this served like a race since so many events have been canceled, for some it was a fitness check in the middle of a training session, and for some it was a fitness test as they enter a new training session this week. Despite running mostly solo, we saw some incredible performances on Cliff Drive and even saw a handful of new 5K PRs! Great job, everyone! Want in on the fun? Join us! Check out our website for more info. www.prprojectkc.com

Athlete Spotlight: Jeremy Randolph Jeremy recently traveled down to Shreveport, LA and ran the Log Jammer Half Marathon. Jeremy had a great training session over the last several months. His 2020 story is similar to many of us in that he had different races and distances on his radar earlier in the year. As the 2020 racing season morphed, he was flexible and found a race late in the season that looked like it would actually happen. Race day showed up with less than ideal conditions including high humidity and warm temps, but hey it was a race! In the final couple months of training, Jeremy had great workout after great workout, got every run in that was on the schedule. There are plenty of fast races in the future for this guy. Great job conquering everything that this training and racing season brought!

Athlete spotlight: Brandon Young Last weekend, Brandon ran his first half marathon at the Longview Half Marathon. He crossed the finish line in 1:29 and took 18th place overall! We're just starting to tap into his potential. He consistently gets all of his scheduled miles in and he's not afraid to see what it feels like to go outside of his comfort zone. Keep an eye out for more results as he tackles a marathon in a couple weeks at the Rock n Roll Nashville Marathon. Incredible job, Brandon!!

Athlete spotlight: Andrea Grube Andrea ran her first half marathon over the weekend. Let me rephrase that: Andrea ran her first half marathon over the weekend, did it virtually, and crushed it with a 2:23! We've been working together since April, and her progress has been nothing short of miraculous. In 6 short months, Andrea has increased her weekly volume to 5x what it was when we started and ran PR times in the 1 mile, 5k, 10k, and half marathon! Andrea shows up everyday to put the work in, simple as that. Look for more great races from her in the future because I truly believe her fastest races are in front of her. Great job, Andrea!

Several of our athletes had big races this past weekend, and we can't wait to tell you all about them this week! First up: Dave Benson Over the weekend, Dave ran the virtual edition of the Hennepin 100 Ultramarathon. He didn't miss a run during this training session, focused on practicing the race strategy we talked about, dotted every I, crossed every T, and crushed this thing! Dave finished his first 100 mile race in 24 hours 38 minutes and remained steady from start to fin...ish. Did I mention that Dave is 62 years young and just accomplished this?! Excellent job, Dave! I can't wait to see what's next.

Taylor Amberg ran her first marathon on Saturday! If I can sum Taylor up in a couple words it would be determined and tough. She put in hard work for several months, dealt with the ups and downs that come with training, did the majority of it solo, and never backed down. Her marathon was forced to go virtual and she kept grinding. She woke up on race day to crazy winds and running it solo and she still didn’t back down! She showed me what she was made of during this training session and I’m honored to have coached her. You’re a marathoner, Taylor! Incredible work!

Let me introduce you to Dave Benson. I met Dave when he came into our first running store (Go Outside and Play) in Galesburg, IL, not long after we opened. We immediately became friends. We couldn’t afford to have employees and Dave offered to work for free! That’s just who he is. Dave is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and you need to root for him as he closes in on his big race. Dave is getting ready to run his first 100 miler and he has absolutely smashed his training. Nearly all of it has been solo, including the 50 miles that he put in last weekend. The race got pushed to virtual, but it hasn’t stopped him from going after his goal. Keep an eye out for updates as Dave runs the virtual edition of the Hennepin 100 in early November. Great job Benny, I’m more proud of you than you know!

Training Tip Tuesday: The majority of our races we've been training for have gone virtual. Not sure how to handle a virtual race? It's simple- treat a virtual race like you would an actual race. Nothing new on race day! Don’t experiment with new beverages or foods 24 to 48 hours before your virtual race. Stick with clothing and running shoes that are in good shape but broken in. Follow your typical race morning routine. Have you run a virtual race? Tell us- how'd it go?

Join me in telling Amanda Hudson great job! She was initially scheduled to run a race in Detroit, but it became a casualty of COVID-19 like many others. That didn’t stop her! Amanda traveled to Wichita and ran the Prairie Fire Half Marathon on October 11th. She ran a 2 minute PR on the course on a very warm day! Amanda put in the work every day and it paid off for her. She has been a joy to coach. Look for more great races from her in the future. Great job, Amanda!
