We decided that a Friday was better to celebrate Valentine’s fun.

The stages of play - key for social development. All children go through these - even bounce back and forth in them - as they develop and grow. Your child isn’t playing alone because they have no friends, they are in the solitary or onlooker stage of play. Celebrate the milestone!

Ahhhh February, the month of celebrating love and friendship! Why are friends important to children? They are often children’s first relationships outside of... their family and are important to their social and emotional well-being. Being in a relationship with other children helps build positive social skills, develop conflict resolution skills, and language. Friendships will also help children to start to develop and model dispositions such as curiosity, and empathy. In a Project Construct classroom, small group centers are so important for promoting friendships. Teachers support development of friendships by establishing multiple centers that are interesting and offer a wide range of developmentally appropriate materials. Children can engage with other children of like-minded interests in small groups. These interactions offer children opportunities to consider the perspective of others, use language, and develop strategies to get their needs met.
