Polk County saw some tornado activity over the weekend, landing us in the KY3 news. A few structures were damaged during these storms. We live in an area that can see storms throughout the year. Sometimes storms can leave destruction and land owners with damaged buildings in their wake. Please contact the Assessor's office at 326-4346 if you have damaged structures from storms. We will come out and make the necessary changes to your property values. In addition, if you remove a building, please let us know so we can get it off your property assessment. Once you let us know that something is gone, we will come out to make sure we are removing the correct structure for the following year.

Good Morning! Just wanted to share some information on how the Board of Equalization (BOE) works. Impact notices for real estate go out today. Pre BOE Meeting...s Impact notices will be sent starting June 3, 2019. Appointments will be made with anyone that has questions or does not agree with real property values. Contact the office to set your appointment at 417-326-4346. We will call before the appointment to go over the property data and be sure we have our information correct. We may be able to answer questions or correct issues at this point and a meeting would not be necessary. If the issue is not resolved, we will be happy to meet with you at the scheduled time. If you have a current appraisal showing our value is too high, please bring it in. This will be all we need. If you do not have a current appraisal, insurance coverage may be helpful in determining the value. These pre BOE meetings will be held during June. BOE Hearings July 1st our books close and any changes after that will have to go through the BOE process. BOE hearings are scheduled for the week beginning July 15th. Call the Clerk’s office to schedule a hearing at 417-326-4031. Once a BOE hearing is scheduled, then we will be able to discuss your property and determine if we can make any changes. If we come to an agreement, the hearing would just be a formality and you would not have to be there. If we cannot come to an agreement then the BOE hearing will be held in the Commissioner’s office before a board. There are forms to be completed in the County Clerk’s office. Be sure to contact them to set up the BOE hearing time and find out what you need to do prior to the hearing. 2020 Year Plan As of July 1 we will begin work for the 2020 year. Parcel by Parcel review will resume, and we will be continuing in Bolivar City limits. Late fall we will begin our new construction review covering the entire county. Any time we are on your property we will leave a card. This is generally just to let you know we were there. If we have questions, we will write a note on the back of the card. The county vehicle is a white Ford Escape SUV. It is clearly marked Polk County Assessor and has a county license plate. The girls have ID cards they carry. Occasionally we will have a second team go out. A personal vehicle will be used with magnets marking the vehicle as Polk County Assessor. The County Sheriff’s office is aware of our locations. Please contact our office if at any time you have questions. 417-326-4346 Parcel by Parcel Review State has required we review each parcel in Polk County. This process will take 3-4 years. We hope to be done by the end of 2021. Much of our data has been incorrect. We are measuring each building, and correcting any data that is found to be incorrect. Last year we covered several of the smaller towns. This year we plan to review Bolivar. New Construction Late fall and into the new year we will be out looking for new construction. Our team will only approach your property if something new or newly discovered is found. They may stop in your drive for a few minutes to check our data.
