Today I was in Fairway, KS smoking for a family. Jason and his wife won from Forks on Friday a private 1on1 backyard experience with me. #forksonfriday raised f...inancial support and awareness for Harvesters - The Community Food Network. Brought one of my Yoder Smokers and set up in their driveway. We did super tender baby back ribs. I haven’t cooked competition ribs in a long time and these were good. Made Phatties with mozzarella cheese in the middle. Bacon wrapped some Brussels sprouts skewers with Fin & Feather rub that were fantastic with the cherry wood. Planked three different kinds of pears stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese and finished with a raw agave drizzle. Smoked some killer pit beans made with Bean Buddy and a cheap can of Van Vamps pork n beans. Added some brisket and rib meat and smoked for three hours. They were thick, sweet and tangy. For me, the experience was better than any walk to the stage or paid gig. It was really fun. Just cooking for someone who appreciates it. It’s like crack to a cook. I have a lot of awards (500+) over 20 years of BBQ, but the rush is still communicating through food. Benefiting Harvesters and our food insecure in Kansas City makes it even better. #eatlocalbbq
