Pet of the month for the month of November is POULTRY. Egg production can alter this time of year. Here is a tip to help encourage egg production in your flock. Provide light for at least 17 hours per day.... Light is a critical ingredient in egg laying. One primary reason hens may stop laying eggs is decreasing day length. Hens need a minimum of 16 hours of daylight to sustain strong production. Without supplemental light, they may naturally stop laying eggs when daylight drops below 12 hours per day due to a hormonal response in the hen that is triggered by light. To address this hormonal response and promote long-term egg production, provide one incandescent 25-watt or LED 3 to 9-watt bulb (brighter light is neither necessary nor advantageous) per 100 square feet of coop space. Use an automatic timer to keep light and dark hours consistent so hens stay on a laying and sleeping schedule. As with nutrition and management, consistency is key when providing light to our hens. Just a day or two of change in any of these factors can hinder egg production.
It's all about poultry this month. Share you photos. I'll be sharing various information throughout the month.

We get questions here at the store quite often. Here's a couple that I have had today. Q #1. So, my dog just gobbles her food and I'm not even sure she chews it. Do I need to get a bigger chunk dog food? Answer: I asked if the dog was threatened by presence of other pets, and there were no other pets. Does the dog throw up food afterwards? Customer said sometimes. So I suggested if the food bowl was big enough, to set a can of green beans for example in the bowl for... the dog to eat around or a larger bowl and have the food be spread thinner so the dog could not take big bites. Both of these situations would have the dog eating smaller bites of food and hopefully chewing it up better. Another idea if possible, to feed the dog smaller amount more often. Q#2: My cat often throws up his food and there doesn't seem to be a hair ball issue. What can I do to stop this? Answer: We discussed the brand of cat food and the age of the cat. The owner said she has tried a variety of cat food brands over the year and blends them for a few days. Nothing is making a difference. In the past I have suggested trying some plain yogurt to help the cat's gut health, but I have recently added an daily pre and probiotic cat food supplement by Tomlyn. It is designed to support a healthy digestive system by supporting proper digestion and bowel health and supporting the growth of beneficial bacteria.

Is your easy keeper getting everything they need from pastures and forage? Likely not. Pasture or forage alone may lack nutrients horses need to support optimal... muscle, hoof growth, skin, hair and overall wellbeing. We recommend filling the gaps with Purina Enrich Plus ration balancer because it’s concentrated, consistent and cost-effective the 3 Cs of success! Balance your horse’s nutrition: https://bit.ly/2WeT9Xx
As I look around my community and even my state, I feel so blessed that we are not enduring the horrific weather conditions as other parts of our country are- hurricane Laura, fires in California, Oregon, Montana, Colorado. Even though these devastated areas are miles and miles away, I know I can help. During September and October the collection cup at the sales counter will be for Hurricane Laura victims through Week of Compassion. During July and August, customers put th...eir change in the cup and $100 was collected for Operation BBQ Relief. Another way you can contribute is directly through Week of Compassion or UMCOR. Both of these faith based disaster support organizations give 100% of the donation toward disaster needs. Many groups take a pretty good size % of every donated $ for administrative cost (salaries, etc.), but these two groups do not. They raise administrative funds by other means. (like through their congregations) You can also designate what disaster situation you want your donation to go to. Even with all the stress and pressure on our daily lives, imagine what those in these disaster locations are living through. I can't imagine their loss and sadness.

Recently Several customers have talked about how much their dogs (cats too) have started scratching something terribly. It’s not fleas and diet hasn’t changed. Could it be oak mites? Anyone else had oak mite issues in pets???
Take care of your chickens so they are happy n healthy egg layers.
Keeping up to date on feed and nutrition info is so important for me to be able to help my customers. This virtual experience is a great opportunity for me.
