Meet the women of the United States Bureau of Mines Rolla Research Center. Opened in 1920, the Rolla arm of the Bureau of Mines worked on projects ranging from ...issues faced by the mining and ore dressing industries, milling problems of the fluorspar districts, research on steels for drilling, explosives for mining, and electrothermic smelting of zinc. Projects included geophysical surveys, byproduct resource recovery, pyrometallurgical processing, and metal casting. Numerous women walked through the doors of the Bureau of Mines in Rolla, working in roles ranging from administration, clerical, chemist, physical science aids, project leads, and researchers.
