Students in Mrs. Leible's 3rd Grade class dissected owl pellets! They matched bones to a chart to classify which body parts and types of animals their owl had eaten. Ultimately students came to the conclusion that owls consume the entire animal since bones from all parts of the prey were found. A second conclusion reached was that bones can’t be digested by owls so they are removed from the owl as an owl pellet. Pellets were sterilized by the science company before we handled them and hands were washed immediately after the activity. Desks were also sanitized following the activity :)
