A letter from your local Veterinary Technician... I know Right now everyone is beyond stressed, and at the very least a little concerned about the current situa...tion. Needless to say, EVERYONE has their own things going on in life. Even without this illness lurking. Work, Bills, Family, LIFE! Now adding the kids off from school, the grocery store shelves empty and work being closed... it’s mind blowing. So now you’re home and you realize that your pet is sick! Really?! On top of everything else, now this... So you call your vet, thank goodness they are OPEN!!! You have a strange conversation with your veterinarian’s office about the recent changes. Needless to say you are not happy about these changes! You voice your opinion, but your fur baby is sick and needs help because you just can’t sit and watch this continue for however long you are in the house. You do as they requested and call when you get to the hospital. They get the information about what is happening with your pet. A technician comes out to get your fur baby. Now you have to sit, be worried and stew about what might be happening with your baby inside without you. This isn’t the veterinary hospital you know, this isn’t normal. Then the doctor calls you and tells you what is happening with your fur baby. You talk about your options and what would be best for your baby. In most cases before you know it, your furry family member is back outside and you get to see that happy little face and probably even a little butt wiggle. It didn’t take long, but it seemed like it took forever!! As someone who works in this profession, this is NOT what we know, this is not our normal. You know this, we know this. It breaks our hearts to have our patient, your fur baby, hesitate to come with us without you. This is a strange and scary time right now. We understand you are uncomfortable with the recent changes. We are too, this is not something that we want to do. In order to stay open and be able to take care of and treat your fur baby, we must take every precaution for our team, their families and our community. If we get sick, we cannot be here for you or your baby. None of us, if one of us goes down, we all go down because of the close proximity we must work with each other. Then at that point your only other option is to take your beloved baby to a strange and foreign veterinary hospital. We want to be here for you and your pets and family members. But please understand the precautions we must take to be able to do that. Make NO mistake, we are treating them with the love and standard of care that you are custom to, actually even more so ( if that’s possible) because this is strange and scary for them too. Our veterinarians have taken an oath to use their scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare. They are doing their part through this strange time as well to keep everyone safe. Believe me when I say that they do not like the fact that they cannot interact with our patient’s owners on a more personal level. In this stressful time please be patient and understanding. We are all doing what we can to stay safe. This will only last as long as it is necessary. Best Regards, Your Local Veterinary Technician (Aka... Caregiver, Playmate, Hug Giver, Teacher, Mind Easer, Comforter, Friendly Face, Eye Boogie Picker, Face to Lick... along with the many professional job titles we have!) D.M.
