September Hero of the Month Our September Hero of the Month is SO2 Navy SEAL, Adam Olin Smith. SO2 Navy SEAL Adam Olin Smith, age 26, of Bevier, MO completed his last mission on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 when the Scorpion helicopter he was riding in went down in Zabul, Afghanistan. ... We HONOR YOU and THANK YOU for your service and sacrifice SO2 Smith! Adam was born October 8, 1983 in Baton Rouge, LA. He was the son of Eric (Theresa) Smith and Michele (James "Doc") Jorgenson. He graduated from Bevier High School in 2002. Adam entered the Navy in 2004. After completion of Basic Training, he went to BUD/S Training in San Diego, CA. He graduated as a Navy SEAL, 2007, and then was stationed in Virginia Beach, VA. He deployed to Afghanistan in September 2010. During his service Adam received Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and SEAL Insignia. Adam was described by fellow team members as a highly decorated combat veteran and dedicated teammate. Adam's Grandparents are Gene & Lucille Smith, Stan & Kathy Lay, and Gordon Keith McPherson. He had 10 siblings, Amber (Brad), Audrey (Jessye), Andrew (Elisha), Abigail (Corey), Alaina, Anna, Austen (Madison), Angel, Zackary and Lindsey. And 2 step-siblings, Lindsay (Josh) and Micah (Raquel). As of 2019 he has 15 nephews and 8 nieces. He also has 9 first cousins, Alexandria (Mike) and Nick- children of Scott & Bonnie Clarkson, Debbie (Justin) Cannan and Alicia (Stephen) Smith- children of Roy Smith, Stephen and Shannon Smith- children of Kevin Smith, Tyler (Caiti), Matthew and Lukas Smith- children of Manuel Smith. Adam had an Uncle Mike McPherson, Uncle Ron (Amy) McPherson, Uncle Kenny Shotts and Aunt Amy (Kyle) Harvey. As well as a very large extended family. Each month Petre Insurance features a United States Veteran as Hero of the Month to honor them for their service and create a space for people to say thank you. Each recipient receives a $30 gift card to a restaurant of their choice. If our featured hero is among the fallen, the $30 will be donated to a charity in honor of them.
