Perry County Saddle Club

The Old John Bohnert Flour Mill at the southern edge of Longtown, Perry County, Missouri along Highway 61 has been demolished! The Bohnert family still owns th...e property, but the building was becoming too dangerous and the roof was in need of major repair. All the old grist mill equipment and steam engine were removed and shared with some grist mill enthusiasts in Pinckneyville, Illinois. Other equipment is headed to Pennsylvania. One of the owners remembers seeing a stone with the date 1878. The mill was supposedly moved from Crosstown to Longtown. A large flour sifter was dated 1890. They also found several ledgers in the building which he hopes to cleanup and share copies with the Perry County Historical Society. These ledgers contain names of the farmers in the area who would bring their corn and wheat to be ground into flour. The mill would keep a portion of the flour as payment and return the remainder to the customer.
