Perfect Marine

This is the very FIRST V8 engine. Patented in 1902 by Leon Levavasseur. He had a successful running engine, called the Antoinette V8, in a racing boat by 1904, ...shortly thereafter in aircraft. Here's what's really amazing about it. It had a simple form of Direct Injection. Note the 8 individual injector units. And it was very light. The picture is of the second generation larger aircraft engine. 110mm bore, 105mm stroke...7.9 liter. and it weighed only 190 lbs. It's power/weight ratio (normally aspirated) would not be exceeded for 25 years!
