Prayer of the Church Third Sunday in Advent 13 December 2020 Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs.... Show us Your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us Your salvation! Keep Your saints from every folly that would turn them from Your words of peace. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. You sent John to proclaim the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Richly and daily forgive our sins and the sins of all believers. Bless Matthew, our Synod president; our district president; our circuit visitor; and all pastors in Christ. Gather and preserve Your Holy Christian Church by Your voice, and send us faithful preachers who will not deny but confess Your truth. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Dear Father, be the source of strength and comfort in every home. Bless the children of our families, that every darkness would be lightened by Your Son’s gracious visitation. Sanctify them completely, that their whole spirit, soul and body may be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Give wisdom and success to our nation and its leaders. Behold in mercy all who are in authority over us and those newly elected. Preserve our land and its citizens in peace and harmony, and protect all who serve in harm’s way. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Receive our thanks in every circumstance for Your kindness in Christ Jesus and the certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life with Him. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Give us faith to believe the New Testament in Your blood, to seek Your Holy Supper for the forgiveness of our sins, and to confess Your truth with honest hearts in communion with one another at this altar today. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Into Your hands, Father, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

YES, WE ARE OPEN FOR WORSHIP The Pastors and Elders are concerned for the health of all citizens of our country and most particularly in the health of our cong...regation and visitors. We are attempting to follow any guidelines provided by our government or District. During the shut down in Missouri we provided video taped services on Facebook and emailed copies of the sermons to all our members. On April 26th and May 3rd we had drive in services in our parking lot, and transmitted the service on FM radio. On May 10, 2020 we resumed services in the church, following the recommendations provided by the Governor of Missouri. The challenge for us as a Church is to be mindful of our concern for the health of the body and the soul of our members and guests. We continue our services and: Encourage all who are sick or feeling under the weather to refrain from attending services. One of the trademarks of members at Peace, is the friendly greeting, handshakes and hugs as we enter and leave the church, greeting each other, visitors and guests. We strongly recommend during this time to forego handshakes, hugs and any physical greetings before, during and after church. We have hand sanitizer at the door as you enter. We recommend wearing a mask, but a mask is not required. About half our members wear masks. We also have masks available in the Narthex. As you enter, please pick up a Service Folder off the credenza, so we can eliminate as much handling as possible. Ushers will lead you to a seat in the Chapel. We will place people in a location that maintains appropriate social distancing in the Chapel. Offering plates will be located at the rear of the Church, so they do not have to be handled during the service. We will not be using the common cup during communion. Pastors and Elders will sanitize their hands before the Service of the Sacrament. Please note, we will not be going to the rail to receive communion. The Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be distributed to you, in your seat, by Pastor and the Elders. Once delivered to you, hold these until the Pastor returns to the Altar and offers the blessings. The Ushers will collect the cups after the completion of communion. The Ushers will dismiss the congregation by rows, beginning at the back of the Chapel after completion of the service.

+Service of the Word+ Second Sunday in Advent December 6, 2020 Old Testament Reading Isaiah 40:111... 1Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins. 3A voice cries: In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. 5And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken. 6A voice says, Cry! And I said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all its beauty is like the flower of the field. 7The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the LORD blows on it; surely the people are grass. 8The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. 9Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news; lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, Behold your God! 10Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. Epistle 2 Peter 3:814 8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed. 11Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 14Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. Holy Gospel Mark 1:18 1The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, 3the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’ 4John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. 7And he preached, saying, After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Alleluia and Verse Luke 3:4b, 6 Alleluia. Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight; all flesh shall see the salvation of God. Alleluia. Collect of the Day Stir up our hearts, O Lord, to make ready the way of Your only-begotten Son, that by His coming we may be enabled to serve You with pure minds; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Prayer of the Church Second Sunday in Advent 6 December 2020 In peace, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.... That the Lord would let His face shine on us, that we may be saved; and that Christ would lead us in straight paths as He once led Joseph like a flock, bringing us out of the bondage of our sins and planting us securely in His eternal promises, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For all ministers of the Church, especially Matthew, our Synod president; our district president; and our circuit visitor, that by their preaching sinners would not perish but rather reach repentance and find comfort in Christ’s Word, which alone stands forever, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For this and all congregations, that we may await the revealing of the new heavens and new earth in lives of holiness and godliness, diligent to be found without spot or blemish and at peace, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For the Lord’s gift of marriage, that He would preserve it against the ravages of sin, the schemes of the devil and the raging of the world; and for the couples and families of our congregation, that God would strengthen them in love for one another and establish them on the foundation of His Word, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For us and our fellow citizens, that God would preserve us from placing our trust in princes and mortal men who come and go like grass before His breath; for our nation, that God would give rulers who will rule after His good pleasure, keeping order and protecting life; and for godly quietness and honesty, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For those in need of our prayers, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For all who commune this day, that as the preaching and baptism of John once prepared the way of the only begotten Son, so now these baptized Christians may be prepared with true repentance and faith to seek the forgiveness of sins and so worthily eat and drink Christ’s true body and blood in the blessed Sacrament, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. Into Your hands, Father, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
