One day I was browsing through some records which were located near the cash registers and overheard a customer say I’d like to speak to Lazy Larry, to which the cashier replied Well, there is not actually a person named Lazy Larry. My worldview shifted that day.

September 11, 1931 The Pacific Plowman-Transcript urged citizens to back the St. Louis County Court request for ten feet of right of way on each side of Osage... Street from the county line to the west of 7th Street for the new Highway 66. The paper said Pacific would either become a hustling town on the highway or a back number in the mud depending on the result of the effort. See more

October 27, 2014 - The Gardenway Hotel on Route 66 at Gray Summit, Missouri closed. Louis Eckelcamp, owner of the Diamonds, built the original Gardenway Units i...n the 1940s. The motel took its name from the Henry Shaw Gardenway created along Route 66. The big Gardenway letters on top were added after the construction of I-44. The sign was placed in storage after suffering extensive vandalism over the past couple of years. See more

Here we are the Union Depot in Pacific, Missouri ~ providing service for the Frisco & MoPac Railroads. We can see the station master and other fine gentleman out posing waiting for one the trains to pull into the station. Circa 1890s

September 26, 1932 Crews begin blasting away part of the landmark bluff at Pacific, Missouri for construction of the new highway. The first blast dislodged 20...0 tons of rock at the top of the landmark. It was estimated that about 3,000 pounds of dynamite would be used for over 50 additional blasts. The advertisement for a druggist in Pacific, painted in large letters on the bluff, would be obliterated. See more

July 3, 1927 - Spencer Groff had been selling produce and a handful of other items from a ramshackle building at MO 100 and US 66 that had been dubbed the Banana Stand. On this date, a much larger wood frame structure was ready for business. He called it the Diamonds, after the shape of the property. That building burned on February 27, 1948 and a new structure was ready in 1950. That structure became the Tri County Truck stop at present day MO 100 and Rte AT. The building has been abandoned since September 2006.
