Colder weather leads many animals to look for warmer, sheltered places to spend the winter. Sometimes, that means they make their way into climate-controlled bu...ildings, as was the case with this Midland Brownsnake that was discovered in the library of our park headquarters. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, this small and harmless species prefers moist environments and feeds on earthworms, snails, slugs, and soft-bodied insects. Despite its small size, this is a fully grown adult and is actually closer to the larger end of the size range for this species. You can learn more about the Midland Brownsnake from the MDC website: https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nat//midland-brownsnake
