Please be safe out there! Car accidents are a leading cause of power outages for many rural electric cooperatives and downed lines are dangerous for all involved including linemen and first responders. If you have an accident involving a power pole, stay in the car until first responders tell you it's safe to exit. If you MUST leave (for instance, if your car is on fire), hop with your feet together away from the car, being careful not to touch any metal.

We have avoided rolling blackouts for another day! Our power supplier has praised the members of all Missouri electric cooperatives for our efforts to conserve- it is making a huge difference! At this point we are asking our members to continue your efforts until Friday. Many of the utilities around us are still experiencing big problems- but the Associated group’s system is stable for now, and hopefully will remain so until this crazy weather breaks. Thank you for your continued efforts to help get us through this intact - YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

Update from Associated Electric Cooperative Members of Ozark Border Electric Cooperative have been asked to safely conserve as much electricity as possible as the three-tiered system of electric cooperatives continues to do everything possible to meet record demand for electricity driven by extreme subzero temperatures throughout a large portion of the country. On February 15, Associated Electric Cooperative, the power supplier for six regional generation and transmission coo...peratives and 51 distribution cooperatives, including OBEC, asked its member systems to urge consumer-members to safely conserve as much electricity as possible. The key goal for requesting conservation efforts is to prevent the need to implement controlled service interruptions in the event overall electric demand exceeds available generation. Although this unprecedented winter weather event is not over, Associated does not currently plan to implement controlled service interruptions. The situation continues to be monitored closely and members will be notified as soon as possible of changes. We ask consumer-members to continue safely conserving as much electricity as possible as we work through this weather event. The quick action of members over the last 24 hours to reduce loads and conserve electricity has prevented system outages and is greatly appreciated. The employees of OBEC, M&A Electric Power Cooperative and Associated Electric Cooperative continue to do everything possible to ensure safe and reliable power for members. See more

Our power supplier has informed us that the need for rolling blackouts has been avoided for today! If we can all continue to conserve tomorrow like we did today we may get out of this intact. Great job OBEC members!
