Today we're congratulating and celebrating Karen as she has been with the Owen Homes' team for 3 years! She works hard behind the scenes to support our operations with a variety of administrative, record keeping and accounting tasks... and everything in between. Thank you for all that you do Karen!

I can't believe it's been 5 years since we've completed our first build in our modern subdivision, Urban North! 5 years ago we sought out to bring a new concept of living to the Kansas City area by carefully combining modern and energy-efficient homes in a suburban setting. What a journey it has been! In just a few weeks' time we will be starting the final two builds to complete this community, but we promise that these won't be the last you see of the Urban North aesthetic.

The first official day of fall - bring on the fall foliage, mums, fireplaces, caramel apple spices, scarfs, pumpkins and all!

I love this wet bar set up between the kitchen and the formal dining area. The sliding barn door on the left is the access to the pantry! Think of all the ways you could put it to good use...

This owners' private entry makes for a great drop zone away from the main living areas with direct access to the laundry room and owners' suite.

We're already seeing more requests for attached/detached apartments for aging parents; home offices have certainly earned their importance; and the National Home Builder's Association forecasts for an increase in the average square footage of a new home to account for specialty spaces like home gym, office or recreational. What changes would you make to your home or spaces that you would add that are COVID-inspired?

Lighting brings so much personality to a space and is a great way to create that "wow" factor. If you're wanting a change of scenery but not enough for a large-scale renovation, updating your light fixtures, paint and hardware can do wonders to transform a room!

I love weekends and getaways to the lake but I certainly wouldn't mind if I could live here all year long! Sharing a video tour of our custom, design + build, modern-contemporary design with bold, bright colors, fun roof lines, the plenty of outdoor spaces and the most beautiful backdrop!

After two weeks of skimming through paint colors, here are the final selections for my exterior: Body- Illusive Green Trim- Greek Villa Front door- Night Owl... Shutters and garage doors- Gel Stained I had been eyeing Illusive Green and Night Owl since day 1 but when you have books and books of swatches at your disposal, you have to check through all your options right!?

We'll wrap up the week of exterior paint color inspiration with these three homes: a cottage-like farmhouse, west coast contemporary and modern farmhouse. I've almost got my paint colors selected.. once I finalize, I'll share them with you next week! Before I do - what's your favorite color palette for an exterior home??

Day 4 of exteriors for paint color inspiration for my personal home - They say blue is calming; the backdrop on this home really adds to that affect! I think my favorite thing about this exterior is that the colors really bring out the blue hues and variation in the stone accents.

For those of you just now seeing, I'm getting ready to paint my personal house here in the next few weeks so I've been combing through our past projects looking for inspiration. I've been leaning towards a green/gray for the body and this home's paint colors are really speaking to me! This green/gray by Sherwin Williams is called Night Owl.

Day 2 of exteriors for paint color inspiration for my personal home - The completion of this home was extra special to our team! After several long months, we were thrilled for the homeowners to move back into their home after being displaced from a fire. I really love how this home pops against the landscaping and stained beam.

I thought I would share some of my favorites from our portfolio with you this week! Here's a bold one from our Urban North subdivision. Lots of clean lines and a high-contrast color palette. The butterfly roof lines balance out this modern look with some personality and style.

With the end of a decade, I thought it would be fun to share one photo from each year, starting with 2019 and looking back to 2010. It was so hard to pick just one photo but it really is amazing to see what has changed (and what hasn't!) in design and style preferences. I'm hoping to surprise you with a few as our team focuses on balancing trending options in our designs to create a more timeless look. What year surprised you the most and which year is your favorite?

It's been all hands on deck for the last few weeks as we have been working on the finishing touches to complete this custom home in Smithville. We're excited to share that after two years of design + build, the homeowners will move in tomorrow!

It's always fun to see one of our newly constructed builds transform to a fully furnished home. Cara Massie Design did a lovely job adding all the finishing touches to the front entry and covered porch on our latest modern farmhouse. A new chapter has begun for this family as they say goodbye to their home and welcome a blank slate so they can rebuild. It was certainly bittersweet as we were removing what was left of the fire damaged home but we are excited to finalize the new house plans and get started on construction!

We've made a lot of progress since you last saw a sneak peak of this home. Back in December we were in the early stages of framing and now we're almost done with the exterior siding and all of the mechanicals. I'm a little late getting this video uploaded from April but that just means I'll have a new video update for you soon!

This photo was actually taken last year as we were wrapping up construction. I've waited very patiently for spring to grace us with her presence so we could photograph the exterior with a pretty landscape. Well, today is that day! I'm on site with @kcmediateam and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! I can't wait to share this one with you.

Is there a room or space that you struggle to keep organized? Organization and functionality is a huge part of the design process, especially with kitchens and pantries. What are your tips for an organized home?

There are so many beautiful and unique interior spaces to share that sometimes I feel the exteriors of homes don't get the attention they deserve. With spring in full swing what better time to focus on exterior spaces? Pick your poison here at our European Farmhouse. This home features a large patio off the great room with a pergola, a covered, screened enclosure and built in grill, drop in hot tub, outdoor fire pit and plenty of space for all your outdoor activities.

Matte black fixtures by Delta Faucet make for a dramatic contrast in this master bathroom. Who else is loving this modern farmhouse look?

Anyone getting ready to do some spring cleaning this weekend? Here's your inspiration: endless counter space, no clutter, clean & organized.

Not quite finished with this shower just yet, waiting to install a frameless glass enclosure but I couldn't wait to share! Light gray porcelain tile with a pacific blue accent tile and a digital shower, U by Moen

There's a small detail in this master bedroom that most wouldn't have noticed at first glance; it may be a bit hard to see in this photo but it's really neat in person. Rather than your standard white ceiling paint, we diluted the wall color, Sherwin-Williams Comfort Grey, by 75% to paint the ceilings. This evokes a soothing, smooth feel and strengthens the cohesiveness of the design.

Similar roof slopes and clean horizontal lines. All of the exterior elements here complement each other well and create a cohesive architectural theme.

A little bit contemporary and a little bit mid-century modern.
