October 8, 2020 ***** PRESS RELEASE ***** Woodland Marina Fire At approximately 2:45 p.m. on October 7, 2020 a 911 call was placed reporting a fire of a boat in a dry storage rack at Woodland Marina. The fire rapidly spread to multiple other boats stored in the structure. Initial arriving units reported a large structure fully involved with partial building collapse. An immediate second alarm was requested and additional water tankers for support. The area is not served by fi...re hydrants. Subsequently, a third alarm and additional water tankers were assigned. 1 patient was transported from the scene with minor burns and is currently in stable condition and has been released from the hospital. 1 firefighter was transported with heat related illness and has since been discharged. The incident response included over 30 fire apparatus and 100 first responders. Crews battled the fire for 6 hours before containing further spread. Fire was deemed out at 8 hours into the incident. Multiple small fires that were unable to be accessed due to the instability of the collapse were monitored and controlled through the morning hours. Crews remain on scene working with contractors and property owners to extinguish remaining hot spots. Missouri DNR is assisting with coordinating cleanup efforts of runoff into the harbor. Containment of runoff was performed during initial operations to prevent contamination into the Mississippi River. The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s office was requested to the scene. The investigation continues as we attempt to finalize the cause of the fire. Initial results show an accidental ignition of gasoline fumes in the boat storage area on a boat the was being repaired. Final cause will be determined by investigators. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. ***** END ***** See more
