This is not an all inclusive list of nutrients that impact skin. This is a list of the ones that deserve more attention and a gold . . Swipe swipe swipe for sources of each. . Food sources are ideal. If you’re struggling with skin issues like acne though, it may be hard to get the needed amount in food alone. Depends on the person and what you’re willing to eat, of course. ... . Acne toolbox explained . Eating enough & balancing blood sugar is important to give your cells adequate energy & fuel. Skin is an organ and has energy needs too. High insulin is a known trigger for acne so balance those plates with good protein, carbs & fats (yes, carbs!!) . Skin is an organ. Imagine if the liver was malfunctioning...you'd do what you needed to do to support it. Your skin needs nutrients like REAL vitamin A, E, C, iodine, copper, . Supps an help but yo...u can do a lot with food first. . Minerals! These can work quickly...but they can also trigger a purge (so don't freak out). Minerals are movers & signalers for A LOT of stuff happening internally. They impact hormones, stress resiliency, inflammation, infections....all which directly impact acne. Drink up [more help on mineral mocktails coming later this week eeeek]. . Gut - do the above & you'll have a good start on gut support! . Sleep & stress- hand up if you've ever had a zit appear after a stressful seasonYa, because stress affects your minerals, cortisol & stress hormones (again, which impact acne). . Topicals - gone are the days of sleeping in your makeup. Effective products [in the right order] + consistency is a non-negotiable. You skin barrier is your protection from the outside world. Ya gotta nurture it . Smart supp use. There are simply some nutrients that are hard to get in adequate doses if you're not wiling to eat certain foods [eh hem...dairy & organ meats]. . Fluoroderma - acne purge from imbalanced halogens. Basically too much fluoride & bromide compared to iodine. Has iodine ever made your acne worse? That's why. . If you want step-by-step direction on how to implement all of this, we lay that out for you inside @theclearskinlab online program. See more

When acne gets worse before it gets better . When most people start seeing their skin worse, they hault what they're doing & start a new plan. Here are some reasons for a normal & IMO healthy acne purge. . Topicals: Acne starts deeeeep within the hair follicle before you see it on the skin. When you begin certain active products like mandelic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, etc you can pull up the gunk that was deeper in this skin. This is normal! Same with introducin...g topical oils. . Estrogen dumping: We make estrogen primarily ovaries but we can store in various tissues (like adipose tissue or fat). When you make nutrient, diet or lifestyle changes, you can go through a phase of pulling that estrogen from tissues and create temporary estrogen dominance. This can mean worsened skin or periods for 1-3 months. Again, it's normal and it will pass. . Lymph, liver & gut: Like estrogen, with diet & lifestyle changes (esp using high dose nutrients), you can quite literally move things along. This too can temporarily worsen skin. Especially if you're going from constipated to daily BM's or drastically changing your mineral intake. Don't panic - it will settle. . I know it's frustrating when you make changes and physically feel or see skin get worse but just like when you train your hair to go from daily washing to 1-2x/week, there's a period of just really shitty hair. . PUSH THROUGH - the purging phase can last 6-12ish weeks. I know, I know....but there are definitely ways to speed that up and support your skin more during the process. . If you want guidance through this, we set you up for success inside @theclearskinlab program. See more

Before you get too deep on the google... . Please oh please: start repleting minerals. get vitamin A (not beta carotene) in food or whole food supp... treat your skin barrier like your lil baby . While your liver is important, I promise you a 10 day liver cleanse will not clear your skin long term. I too wish it were that easy. . No matter what acne type you have, all types need the same foundational support! . More coming soon on vit A & minerals! Peep my highlights to get a head start on mineral repletion though! See more

Psoriasis sucked, 5 things I learned: when i was deep in the weeds of psoriasis, amenorrhea and a poor relationship with food, I thought there was no way out. . maybe you feel that?... You already eat healthy & exercise. You sleep & supplement. You wonder if it's genetic or if they're something you're doing? or not doing? . I hear comments like, I’ve tried everything, I’m so tired of feeling like this, and I just want to know what's going on with my body. . I get it. I've been desperate, hopeless & frustrated with my health too. . If you feel frustrated, defeated and out of ideas, you don’t need a new diet trend. You need a strategy. and sometimes, a new mindset. Here are 5 things that shifted things for me. I hope they’ll help you to . 1Your diet doesn’t have to be perfect to heal. 2Doing less can give you more. 3Small wins matter; acknowledge the little symptom changes while being patient with the bigger ones. 4If you want the body to serve you, you have to accept rest. 5Your own journey is the only one worth comparing to. . If you feel pressured to be "perfect" during turkey week, remember these nuggets and : @gallivancreative

Our air is so toxic right now. . We've had this air filter since March and this is the first time I've ever seen it stay on high for extended periods of time. ANY time the door opens, it turns "red". . Poor air quality... Fair air quality Good air quality . We're in Bend, OR & it's hella smoky from the west coast This air filter is removing virtually all fine particles in the air () . Why we chose AirDoctor specifically: . Its UltraHEPA filter is 100 times more effective than ordinary HEPA filters (which is considered gold standard). . It captures some of the most dangerous airborne particles, including: mold spores, bacteria and viruses, cleaning supply chemicals, smoke, pollen, pet dander, gasses & VOCs, & ultrafine PM 2.5 (aka fine particles). . Its powerful. Can filter 2400 sq ft every hour. . Automatically adjusts it's filtration level based on the room. When we cook, it ramps up as it senses the change. . Dual action carb +gas trap + VOC filter. Basically, it's clearing the most dangerous sh*t. . IT'S QUIET. Affordable. Easy to move. Not an eyesore. only upkeep is changing the filters when it tells you to and our filters have lasted 6 months. In terms of toxicant INTAKE, there are things we can't control like natural disasters & industrial & vehicle fumes. We can control what's inside our homes though. What air we breathe while we sleep. . Your lungs will thank you! . Save $300 with the affiliate link in my bio (discount automatically applied- no code required). HORMONES... . Give me a if you’ve ever wondered if you have a hormonal imbalance? . Adrenals?... Thyroid? Estrogen? Progesterone? Testosterone? Insulin? . They're all hormones. . What symptoms made you question an imbalance? I genuinely wanna know? . Maybe you found yourself in deep with dr google? and then found yourself and an amazon cart full of supplements? . Or maybe you’re just too damn tired to even go down that rabbit hole. . Hormone imbalances can certainly lead to symptoms but (and this is important so lean in, sis). . Hormones themselves are rarely the root issue. . Hormones are just doing what they are told from the brain so we need to ask the deeper questions like... . What's CAUSING the hormonal imbalance? . Common things I see in practice are: Gut issues Detox issues Poor sleep and light hygiene Poor movement habits (too much or too little) Stress Lack of essential nutrients or nutrient imbalances . It's that easy and that complicated. . The @dutchtest is my favorite hormone test as it can help guide us and tell us more about what we're working with if an imbalance is present. . Drop your hormone questions below and I’ll answer in more posts/stories. See more

Remember that 5th grade health class we took to learn about periods? (ya that awkward one). . Remember? I don't. . I mean...I remember it was in the library but I'm fairly sure they weren't teaching about progesterone, what BBT is or what cervical fluid means. I don't remember anything bc..IT WAS 5TH GRADE!... . Fast forward to adulthood. Unless you went to med school, most of us ladies were never taught anything else about that whole ovulation, period, hormone process. . Instead, we're told PMS, pain, clotting, hormonal acne, moods, breast tenderness, etc are all normal. . A 5th grade lesson on periods is not enough for a woman to understand her body. but you also shouldn't need med school to learn it. . Swipe for 4 big period & hormone truths. . Swipe along . See last slide for my top 3 water filter recommendations. . When it comes to water filters, it's all about what we're getting vs what we're not getting.... We want: H20 (obvi) & minerals . We don't want: industrial & agricultural chemicals, radioactive compounds, hormone disrupting chemicals, fluoride, VOC's, heavy metals, carcinogens, prescription drug remnants. . While I can't tell you what filter is best for YOU and your fam, here's my attempt at helping you navigate that water world with a lil more guidance. . I certainly have not looked at every brand & can't give my feedback on this brand or that brand for YOU but swipe to the last post for my top 3 filter recs (as of today). . Lastly, I FULLY understand access to clean water in the U.S is a privilege. Along with spreading awareness of water quality in America, I donate monthly to @charitywater to support a future with clean water EVERYWHERE. . It's going to take a lot of voices to make a change here!. . 2 big supplements red flags plus some other tips . Label : . 1) Lists folic acid (instead of folate, methyl folate, folinic acid, MTHF). .... 2) Has artificial colors, unnecessary fillers, artificial flavors SUPPLEMENT OVERWHELM?? . Before I really learned the science around nutrient therapy or targeting supplements based on bio-individuality, I was SO lost and SO confused by the supplement world. . Of course it's confusing when.... The grocery store aisles are madness. The google makes you think you need one (or 5) of everything. . And the IG influencers are pushing things like hair gummies. Here are some supplement tips: 1Do your research or work with a profesh to ensure you're spending $ on things you need. 2Only purchase from companies that are 3rd party tested (meaning another company has tested and confirmed what's in their product). 3Phase your supplements (aka take breaks). 4Don't buy on our lovely friend, amazon, unless it's directly sold from the company. 5Be a healthy skeptic when someone promoting it makes a $. . If you do a google search, you’ll find blogs that praise caffeine and an equal amount that hate on it. What’s the truth?? . Depends on you (annoying answer I know. but it’s the truth). . There are definitely benefits to caffeine use BUT how and when to use it is everyyything.... . Some general tips for most people: . Consume with a bit of carbohydrate (or just a meal in general). Due to the cortisol and blood sugar impact. . Phase it (days on and days off). Due to caffeine & adenosine receptors in the brain. Ex: Have regular M Th Sa and decaf or another hot drink Tu W F Su. You don't have to skip the ritual, just skip the caffeine part those days. . Hydrate. Replenish with water and electrolytes to keep your brain (and body) hydrated. . Stop caffeine intake by noon or 2 pm. This is a bit more obvious and will vary per person but protect your sleep by reducing stimulants in the afternoon. . I *heavily* eye rolled when I first read about this... . I was 20 something, cross legged on the living room floor and scrolling the internet for a natural remedy to psoriasis. . Deep in a flare and covered in spots, I was D E S P E R A T E and since my only other options per docs were steroids and tanning beds, I turned to good ole google (you know the drill)... . I scanned at least 20 articles talking about diet changes...stress changes..."lifestyle" changes (this is where I ). . I literally remember thinking "who the f can eat like that" and "there's no way this is stress related" . as I knotted up my tennis shoes to go an another 8 mile run(still convincing myself my body wasn't stressed). . If you're like me, you're COMMITTED to figuring things out and you'll try anything. You'll spend hours searching for answers (ILY) aaaannndd... . when you run into 10 different perspectives, you're left more confused than ever. It's exhausting, discouraging and really freaking frustrating. . But I have to tell you, I refused to let overwhelm stop me and you shouldn't either. When we focus on these systems, this is what can happen.... . You to your goals. bc when you optimize these puzzle pieces, health is the side effect.... Energy is the side effect. Clear skin is the side effect. Good digestion is the side effect. Stable moods are the side effect. Smooth periods are the side effect. . Instead of treating the problem, the focus is identifying the CAUSE of the problem and treating that. . Ok, examples: Acne: conventional problem approach: topicals, birth control, antibiotics, spironolactone, accutane. . IBS: conventional problem approach: essentially very little, some medications, some general diet recs. . PCOS: conventional approach: birth control, metformin. . Psoriasis: conventional approach: steroids, topicals, immunosuppressant . The functional medicine approach for all of these (and all symptoms) is: 1Assess the person and find out as much as you can about every single puzzle piece here. 2Based on info, identify the piece(s) that need the most attention and will move the needle most. 3Work with the individual on a plan of action to improve those puzzle pieces. . Over time, you start getting each piece working for you and creating the health and life OF.YOUR.DREAMS . and honestly (speaking from experience), you save in the end. You save time, money, energy, tears, frustration. It's a lil blurry in the beginning but as you get answers and direction, things become so clear and it's EXCITING.MOTIVATING.ENERGIZING. . ok. what puzzle piece do you think needs your attention most?
