A group of Toronto history museums are collaborating to launch a series of virtual projects created by Black, Indigenous, and artists of color called Awakenings, which will be produced and released over the next few years. This piece for The New Yorker profiles efforts at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, led by Alexandra Lord and Benjamin Filene (both NCPH members and former board members!), to work the COVID-19 pandemic into pre-existing plans for an upcoming exhibit, In Sickness and in Health, that will cover disease outbreaks in the US.
