Our denomination (rcus.org) has been meeting annually for 275 years. Just to put that in perspective, the United States is only 244 years old. God's church will stand, even if every earthly nation falls. Great is His faithfulness.

In Luke 8:22-25, in the midst of great trial, Jesus challenged his disciples with the question, "Where is your faith?" We are no different. We will be faced with situations that will cause us to experience great fear and anxiety. The question is, "Where is your faith? Do you know the person, power and presence of Jesus and therefore trust Him to handle everything, no matter what circumstance you find yourself in?

To reject the grace of God is not only dangerous to your soul but also a great blasphemy against God. Martin Luther called this a horrible, inexpressible blasphemy" and John Calvin a dreadful ingratitude. Rejecting the grace of God dishonors the God of all grace because it degrades and despises his great gift of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ.

As Jesus concludes his teaching on the importance of hearing God's Word he reveals that those who are his true family have a spiritual relationship with him that transcends every other relationship and through which they are recognized by him and grow in resemblance to him.

When you hear the word of God with that noble and good heart, and it takes root in you, two results will be evident. First, you will be a blessing to others, for you will not be able to hide the change, but just as a lamp is put on a lamp stand, so also your light will shine. You will say with the psalmist, "My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer" (Psalm 45:1). Second, you will be blessed yourself, for he who hears will be given more, receiving "grace upon grace" (John 1:16). Take heed, therefore, how you hear, for attached to it are great blessings for others and for yourself.

Are you going through hard times? So were the Israelites, who had been living in slavery four hundred and thirty years. Yet, In the midst the great suffering God spoke, announcing judgment upon his enemies and salvation for his people.

Is the kingdom being revealed to you by Jesus, or concealed from you by Jesus? Every one who hears the Word of God preached is in one of two relationship with that word. You either have the gift of hearing, which results in receiving all of the Bible as true and trusting in Jesus alone for salvation, or you do not. And how you hear has eternal consequences.

Why would a woman, one also known as a great sinner, lavish such great love upon Jesus and why would Jesus allow it? That is the question that causes Simon the Pharisee to doubt Jesus' standing as a prophet worthy of his respect. And that is the question that Jesus clearly answers when he reveals that this woman loves a great deal because she has been forgiven a great debt.
