We are excited to announce that NMHC was recently recognized by the Center for Disease Control as one of 15 winners of the 2020 Million Hearts Hypertension Control Challenge. To be eligible, entrants shared verifiable blood pressure control data on their patients and highlighted successful strategies and best practices adopted by the practice or system. All Champions achieved control rates of at least 80% for their adult patients. The Million Hearts Hypertension Control C...hallenge is an opportunity to identify practices, clinicians, and health systems that have worked with their patients to achieve hypertension control rates of at least 80%. The Champions’ stories are intended to inspire other practices and health systems to focus on improving hypertension control, and the lessons learned and shared can offer a path to improved blood pressure control. Million Hearts is a national initiative, co-led by CDC and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2022. Saving lives through better blood pressure control has been a long-standing CDC priority. CDC recognizes the Champions’ performance and shares their lessons learned to inspire other practices and practitioners to focus on achieving similar success. @MillionHeartsUS #HTNControlChamps

It's not too late to vaccinate! While it is often recommended that you get the flu vaccine at the beginning of fall, the reality is that it is beneficial anytime throughout the flu season. If you and your family haven't received the flu vaccine, make sure to set up a time to do so soon, as it is your best defense against the influenza virus! #WeAreNMHC #NMHCFightsFlu

Room sharing helps reduce the risk of SIDS, but it's not safe to share a sleeping area with a baby. We encourage you to put the baby on his or her own separate sleep area (like a crib or bassinet) next to your bed so you can still keep an eye on them while reducing any accidents that could occur with bedsharing. #SIDSAwarenessMonth. #SafeToSleep

When it comes to taking care of our lungs and our respiratory health, we generally think of avoiding things like smoking, vaping, and air pollution, while keeping up on things like regular exercise. We at Northeast Missouri Health Council still encourage you to do all of the above, but we also challenge you to think of other ways to keep your lungs healthy! This includes making sure that you get your flu shot and wearing a mask when you're out and about to avoid respiratory illnesses that could have lasting effects on your lungs. It also means being proactive in your care and getting regular checkups to make sure all is well! #HealthyLungsMonth #WeAreNMHC

Perhaps we've stressed handwashing more this year than past years, but the reality is proper handwashing is a great way to protect yourself and others from, not just the novel coronavirus, but all sorts of illnesses. As we move into flu season, it's important that we continue to wash our hands with soap and water often, and use hand sanitizer when soap and water aren't available. Additionally, make sure that you're continuing to wear your mask as another means to protect yourself and those around you! #GlobalHandwashingDay #WeAreNMHC
