Our work with youth currently consists of taking young men to work. We learn how to install floors, camp, share meals, pray and read together. My wife is also providing weekly outings and Bible studies with teen girls from my daughter's school. She puts a lot of time and effort into making these special times.
KC boys in Minnesota.
Even young men grow weary. Break=nap Lunch with Dr. Tony Evans...good reading!
The past couple months I've been working with several young men from Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, ia. and Kansas City as we install gym floors. Usually we live together in some rented townhouse, apartment or in the camper I recently bought. I try to be alert to opportunities to encourage them in their faith and in the situations they find themselves in. We often grow close as we share meals, work and do life together. The work is draining and sometimes I struggle to keep i...t positive as we work long days. The guys do a great job, most the time, of following my instructions and letting me lead. Keep us on your prayers. For the time being, this is NKCYS. I don't know what the future holds for me and this ministry, but I trust The Lord is in it now as much as he was when we were working with neighborhood children. We are currentlyhhousing 2 homeless men and their dogs and my son who lost his apartment to fire last June.
Unloading a semi of maple or plywood can take up several hours and requires a lot of teamwork and hustle.
Four KC guys working in Omaha recently, installing a gym floor.
Currently there are no kids to be found around NKCYS, but we are working to be ready for them soon. There is potentially a great new program coming this fall.
Some recent pics of a friend helping with our park playground and of guys on a work trip a few weeks ago.
Am in the middle of my second week, taking guys from KC to work contruction in Iowa. Installing gym floors is a great way to build confidence as you learn to use tools and see yourself building something that will look great and last a long time.
Jesus Christ International Church is donating this playground and 10 students from Northland Christian got started digging it up. It was a beautiful day and the guys worked hard.
