NLAS operates in partnership with the youth ministries of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America advocates the growth of faith in youth in the programs of our youth serving partners Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the USA, and American Heritage Girls. encourages Lutheran congregations to use the program and resources of our youth serving partners to extend their ministry to children, youth, and young families encoura...ges Lutheran youth to grow in knowledge of the Triune God and in their relationship to the Lutheran church through participation in the religious emblems program advocates the use of chaplains and chaplain aides in unit activities encourages congregations to provide camp chaplains recruits and approves Lutheran clergy as chaplains for BSA national camps, such as Philmont Scout Camp, and national Scouting activities (National Scout Jamboree, National Order of the Arrow Conference) provides a welcome and Christian witness through exhibits at BSA National Scout Jamborees promotes recognition of adults serving youth in Lutheran churches by means of the Lamb and Servant of Youth awards recognizes youth achievement in earning the religious emblems and the highest rank of their program participates in the BSA National Religious Relationships Support Committee and the GS-USA Interfaith Committee to support faith in God as an essential part of development of the finest character in youth conducts a Scouting in the Lutheran Church conference at the Philmont Training Center to explore how Scouting can be a ministry of your congregation, encourage the growth of faith in youth, and discover the many resources available to support this ministry publishes a periodic newsletter, the Lutheran Scouter, and provides other resources on its web site, www.nlas.org . 296 religious emblems and 10 Four-Star awards earned in the last quarter in spite of COVID. The sad news is that the number of religious emblems reported in the quarter ending in February 2021 has fallen 44% relative to the previous year, according to P.R.A.Y. This is likely due to reduced in-person interaction and opportunities. The good news is that there were 312 Lutheran awards in the reporting period of October 2020 February 2021. 277 awards were presented to BSA membe...rs. Fifteen of these were adult recognitions; 11 Lamb awards, 3 Servant of Youth and one Building Faith in Youth. There were twenty Jesus and Me, 51 God and Me, 118 God and Family, 52 God and Church and 21 God and Life religious emblems presented to BSA youth. Eight God and Life recipients received the Four-Star award for earning all of the religious emblems from God and Me through God and Life. Fifteen religious recognitions were presented to GS-USA members; 2 Jesus and Me, 6 God and Me, 6 God and Family, and one adult recognition (Servant of Youth). Five faith awards were presented to American Heritage Girls; one God and Me, and 2 each God and Church and God and Life. The 2 God and Life recipients also received the Four-Star award. Fifteen Lutheran youth did not report a scouting affiliation; they received 6 God and Me, 2 God and Family, 2 God and Church and 5 God and Life awards. Congratulations to all the youth who earned religious emblems and thanks to the counselors who worked with them in spite of the meeting and instruction challenges of this COVID year. See more
