If you have a fire hydrant near your home that is blocked by snow, please take a moment to clear out space around it in case of an emergency. This saves precious time when our firefighters are trying to put out a fire.
Tomorrow at 4:00 PM is the closing time for applications. If you are considering applying for this opportunity, then now is the time to apply.
Nixa Utilities customers may be affected by rolling blackouts over the next few days Nixa Utilities today received notice that the Southwest Power Pool (which m...anages the power transmission grid over a 17 state area in the Midwest) issued an Energy Emergency Alert Level 3. What this means is that the SPP is monitoring the electric grid very closely and may have to force 30-minute rolling blackouts on parts of the system. SPP’s emergency operations plan is designed to prevent system-wide failure by forcibly reducing power demand by shutting off one region for 30 minutes, then restoring power to that region while shutting off power to another region (i.e. rolling blackouts). Nixa Utilities customers could potentially lose power for one or more of these 30-minute blackouts over the next several days. Unfortunately, these are out of our control and would occur without warning. We are in this energy emergency due to the extreme winter weather. Current electric demand is very high across the entire SPP service area and supply is limited. You can help reduce demand by limiting your electricity usage today and over the next few days.
There is a growing potential for another round of accumulating snowfall Tuesday through Thursday. Continue to monitor the forecast closely as we determine the details on potential snowfall amounts. #mowx #kswx

Last night we were one of the stops for the Aldersgate UMC Nixa MO Hero Halloween Hunt. The families came by and dropped off thank you notes to our crews. We enjoyed reading the notes this morning! Thank you to Aldersgate for inviting us to be a stop and to the families for all the kind words!
Thank you to our wonderful first responders!
Our crews had a great time at Century. We really miss getting the chance to teach fire safety. This was one event that worked out well with social distancing for the kids.
Put a freeze on winter fires! Watch this video from the U.S. Fire Administration for tips on how you can keep your home fire-safe.
Be safe this Halloween!

In order to help reduce speeding along Old Castle Rd., the Nixa Street Department is installing a chicane (a traffic calming device) on Old Castle between the i...ntersections with Weldon Dr. and Downshire Dr. Old Castle will therefore be closed between Weldon and Downshire from October 19th thru October 23rd for construction of the chicane. Thank you for your patience as we work to improve Nixa streets.
In the fire service it is every firefighters duty to understand the capabilities and limitation of the hoselines they use. Part of that includes annual hose testing. This week on our new training pad, crews will be testing all of the hose in our district. This process will take 3 days and will test thousands of feet of hose.
Today is the last day of Fire Prevention Week! Here is a final safety tip for you. You have to be alert when cooking. You won’t be alert if you are sleepy, have taken medicine or drugs, or consumed alcohol that makes you drowsy. We hope you will keep the tips you learned this week in mind the next time you cook! #firepreventionweek
It's Fire Prevention Week! Have a kid-free zone of at least 3 feet around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried. #firepreventionweek
