Statements made after an event has taken place and the outcome cannot be mitigated can cause negative feelings that distract from a learning experience. Reframing allows the same subject to be viewed differently, from a negative self defeating mindset to a new frame that enhances self esteem. Self-defeating statement: I "woulda" done better on that test, if only I had gotten more sleep that night. Positive self talk statements: I did my personal best.
