We’re seeing more and more burnout among nonprofit leaders. Anyone who manages another is at increased risk of burnout. And those who supervise them (and this includes the board of directors who supervise the executive), must be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of burnout. Three such signs are: 1. Exhaustion 2. Lack of creativity and motivation and 3. Changes in self-esteem. We know you care, so check in with your people.

The cartoon might make you laugh. But then read the Harvard Business Review statistics on the second post and, all of a sudden, the laughter fades. Leaders: Who are you asking to do the invisible labor in your organization? Is it disproportionately the women? If so, it’s time to rectify that inequity. Women already suffer from pay inequity, don’t make them pay twice by loading them up with labor that won’t help them get promoted.

Carolyn recently reminded a client that research shows wearing a fragrance you connect with positively is one way to make you feel confident.
