Big week coming up for us with lots of event details and our Teen Council Art Course tour videos launching! We had a rare opportunity to take group photos while everyone was together all at once last week. Here's the best and weirdest ones. #nelsonatkinsteens #nelsonatkins
For the first time, Teen Council will be in session this summer, and we're bringing you a bunch of opportunities to get involved with the museum! First up, we have two outdoor Teen Open Mic Nights. As always, come just to watch the performances or to get up there and do your thing! Second, our Teen Chalk Art Festival will allow you to create your own chalk art composition inspired by an object in our galleries on the circle drive! To be a chalk artist, you'll need to sign up ...(details coming this week), and space will be limited, but anyone can come watch the artists at work or venture inside. Finally, we'll be trying out a new virtual event by premiering a pre-recorded Bob Ross parody video where we do our best to paint Cezanne's Mont Sainte-Victoire. Follow along live at home with your own supplies, or hang out in chat to talk with council members! All events will be FREE and we'll be posting more details over the upcoming week for each one, so stay tuned. Which are you the most excited about?!
We've been workin' on some stuff! Friday teaser trailer drop. @nelsonatkins #nelsonatkinsteens #nelsonatkinsmuseum #nelsonatkins
We want to share this awesome opportunity for high school students from our friends over at the Kemper Teen Arts Council! Submit your artwork for a chance to be featured in a virtual exhibition. Their council will also select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners who will receive Blick gift cards!... All mediums welcome as long as you can submit a digital version. Send 1-3 high resolution images, let them know which prompt you chose, and include your name, a brief description, artwork title, high school, age, and grade level. Submissions due by May 19, so get on it and go check their Instagram for more details! @kemperteens
Working all weekend on a big project that we'll hopefully be able to share with you in a few weeks! Stay tuned! @nelsonatkinsteens

This event will be held on Zoom and is ticketed, so space is limited! Reserve your FREE ticket today by following the link below:... https://cart.nelson-atkins.org/27773/29160 @nelsonatkins @tivolikc
Another work day at the museum but (some) council members still found time today to have a little fun in the sculpture park.
We're excited to announce our first virtual event for 2021, Teen Council Book Club! We've chosen Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray as our first book. We'll be hosting a virtual discussion through Zoom on Saturday, March 27th at 3:00 PM (Zoom link to come later). That gives you a couple months to get through it and join us. Currently the paperback is $4.99 on Amazon, only .60 on Kindle, and FREE through Apple!
We're checking in with a quick update on the status of the museum's teen programs in the near future. - The museum is currently closed to all visitors until further notice. The Sculpture Park is still open, but social distancing rules apply. - Upcoming public programs have been cancelled through mid-June, including all Teen Council planned events.... - We hope to reschedule at least one Open Mic Night during the summer months. We'll be posting on here regularly again starting this week. We have an Ask Us Anything story post scheduled for Friday, where you can throw any questions you may have our way. Be sure to check back regularly for updates as they come in. We look forward to seeing you all again soon! Stay home and stay safe! - Nelson-Atkins Teen Programs Staff & Teen Council
The Sculpture Park is at it's Fall apex. Now's the time to get out here and take a walk, have a socially distanced picnic on the lawn, or check out some art before the leaves are all gone!
New exhibition open at the museum! Robert Blackburn & Modern American Printmaking in galleries 214 and L8. Come check it out, and don't forget your masks!
We're finally back from our summer break and ready to add some new members to our Teen Council! If you're a high school student looking for a way to connect with the museum and contribute to our teen programs, apply by visiting the link in our bio! @nelsonatkins @nelsonatkinsteens
The Nelson-Atkins has been hard at work creating an online hub with resources for our visitors, and there's more on the way. Head to nelson-atkins.org and check out the @ home pages to see what we've been working on!
We're incredibly bummed to announce that the 2020 Teen Guide program has been cancelled. We hope that all of you who applied this year will consider reapplying in 2021! While we won't have a job opportunity this summer, we are looking at a lot of different options for FREE teen programs in the coming months when the museum reopens. Stay tuned!
Bored? Fill these out and share to let others see how much you love teen programs at the museum! @ The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
It is with a heavy heart that we have to once again cancel this Open Mic Night, but with concerns expressed by several parents, we want to take every precaution to keep our wonderful teen community safe. Stay tuned for more information on future teen events. We have more in the works that we're very excited to be able to share with you soon! Stay safe, wash your hands, and take care!
Another Open Mic Night is only a week away! Our January plans were foiled by snow and ice, but we're back to focus on Nefertari before the exhibition disappears in a few weeks. Join us on March 13th for performances, snacks, FREE tickets to the Nefertari exhibition, and a chance to explore her tomb in virtual reality!... REMINDER: Teen events are for ages 13-19 only, and are meant to give teens a safe space to share. Friends and family are welcome to explore the museum on their own until the event ends. @nelsonatkins #nelsonatkinsteens @ The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
