Join the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum for the Urban Youth Sports Symposium. The program offers seasoned advice for students looking to navigate issues of education, athletic preparation, careers after sports, activism, and social justice. The Symposium is presented through the generous support of the Coca Cola Foundation. Students can address their questions to our special guest, former NFL star Adewale Ogunleye. Ogunleye is Head of the Sports and Entertainment Division... for USB Wealth Management USA. Wale played 10 years as defensive end in the NFL, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2003 and serving as a team captain for the NFC Champion Chicago Bears in 2006. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Wale is the son of immigrant Americans from Nigeria. In addition students will view a special feature on basketball star Seimone Augustus. Augustus is an All Star, Olympic Champion, and WNBA Champion basketball player for the Los Angeles Sparks. Augustus will discuss her commitment to education and community in a special video message. This event is free and will stream live on the NLBM YouTube Channel and Facebook page.

I tell people all the time you can’t make this stuff up, it’s too good. The great Satchel Paige donned a whig and fake red beard as he played with the all-white House of David team during the 1934 Denver Post Tournament. Needless to say, Satchel put on a show as his team won the tournament and the $7,500 prize money. Brought to you by our friend at Pro Athlete, Inc.

We are thrilled to announce a star-studded live streamed conversation in remembrance and celebration of baseball legend, Buck O’Neil. Buck made Kansas City home... after playing 11 years with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues, and was a driving force behind the creation of the Negro League Baseball Museum, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this past September. On what would have been Buck’s 109th Birthday, Friday, November 13th, 2020 - some of Buck’s closest friends including Award-Winning Documentarian Ken Burns, Legendary sportscaster Bob Costas, Negro League Baseball Museum President, Bob Kendrick and Senior Writer at The Athletic, Joe Posnanski. The timely conversation will take place not only on Buck’s Birthday, but in the 100th year anniversary of the Negro Leagues themselves founded in Kansas City, Missouri in the YMCA Paeso Building, that is forecasted to be the future home of the Buck O’Neil Research Center. Guests will share memories of Buck’s incredible spirit, character and legacy - from the insider perspective of those who knew him and his story, best. The event will be livestreamed on The Negro Leagues Facebook Page, and YouTube Channel on Friday, November 13th, 2020 at 1:30 PM EST/12:30 PM CT.
