Financial tip of the day: If you're paying PMI on your mortgage, you're wasting money. If you have, say 10% down and need the other 10% to meet the 20% requirement (so you don't owe PMI), finance 80% on the primary mortgage, pay 10% down, take out a home equity line of credit for the remaining 10%.... Use the PMI payment you saved to pay your HELOC loan off more quickly. PMI is only required if the PRIMARY mortgage is over 80% of the home's value.
