MU School of Visual Studies

New exhibition curated by Audrey Florey (PhD student in Visual Studies, art history) at the Montminy! The reception is June 17, 5:30 - 7:30 pm at the Gallery (3801 Ponderosa Street) and all are welcome!

The School congratulates Dr. Kaitlin R. Grimes, who just defended her PhD dissertation on The Material Politics of Ivory in Early Modern Europe! Her committee included Prof. Michael Yonan (chair - now at UC Davis); Prof. Anne Rudloff Stanton and Prof. Kristin Schwain (Art History); and Prof. Rabia Geha Gregory (Religious Studies). Brava Dr. Grimes! And we managed to get a Zoom screenshot of the very moment when it sinks in!

We congratulate Alicia Jacobs, who today defended her thesis on "Remodeling the Narrative of Women and the Built Environment in the Middle Ages," for her MA in Art History. Her committee included Dr. Jim van Dyke (Art History), Dr. Robert Walsh (Architectural Studies), and was chaired by Dr. Anne Rudloff Stanton (Art History), who uncharacteristically forgot to snap a screenshot of the Zoom screen before the other committee members had logged off. IN any event, brava, Alicia!

Prof. Stanton's ARH_VS 1130 (Introduction to Art History) successfully got students INTO the history of art this semester: @ggracemcguirk re-enacts Hans Memling's 15th-century portrait diptych of Maarten van Nieuwenhove with her roommate @emmakwinn - and cat. Happy end of the spring 2021 semester!
