New report from MU Extension Labor and Workforce Development Population Trends in Missouri and Its Regions. The report looks at changes over the past year and past decade using population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. In addition to looking at the state’s overall population trends, these data also contain information about the components of population change (i.e., natural change and migration) which can explain a lot about why some regions grow and others decline. Regional and county-level data are available too! Learn more about your area at: https://extension.missouri.edu//Pub/pdf/miscpubs/mx0055.pdf #ExtendMU #BusComEx #MUEXTLWD

USDA is investing $92.2 million in grants that develop, coordinate, and expand direct producer-to-consumer marketing, local and regional food markets, and local food enterprises. These grants generate new income sources for small, beginning, veteran and socially disadvantaged farmers; increase local food access across rural and urban communities; and provide platforms for culturally relevant, value-added and niche products to shine. The use of independent contractors in lieu of employees is becoming a more common workforce arrangement and may represent a structural shift in the labor market. From 2014 to 2019, one in 10 new jobs in Missouri’s high-growth small businesses, called Cheetahs, came from three contractor-dependent, smaller industries. These three industries Specialty Trade Contractors, Home Health Care Services and Computer Systems & Data Processing Services also have promising growth pros...pects. These industries rely heavily on flexible labor pools, to increase their access to timely, specialized skills, while lowering administrative costs.
