The MU Cardiology team has been busy with two abstracts presented at the recent ACVIM Forum in Phoenix and two co-authored manuscripts recently published. Congrats to Drs. Lyndsay Kong and Kelly Wiggen and all those involved with these projects!

Congratulations to Molly Ross, a recent graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine, who won best overall presentation at the annual CVM research day for her project with the cardiology service entitled Prevalence of the RBM20 mutation in genotyped dogs. Molly will be doing a rotating internship this next year and she has a particular interest on cardiology. Congrats Molly!

Payroll Deduction Allows Couple to Give Back to the CVM CVM Professor Emeritus Allen Hahn and his wife, Joan, have been supporting their alma mater for more tha...n 50 years. Al Hahn received a bachelor of science in agriculture at Mizzou before going on to earn a doctor of veterinary medicine in 1958. Joan Hahn received a bachelor of science in human environmental science in 1957. Al Hahn accepted a position at the MU College of Veterinary Medicine and became a professor in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. The Hahns made their first gift to MU in 1961 and have made gifts to their favorite campus programs every year since 1982. Using a payroll deduction, they now support cardiology research at the College of Veterinary Medicine. We decided we’d help out a little bit and kept at it, Al Hahn said. We thought it was the right thing to do. We give directly out of payroll and once a year we take it off our taxes. The school’s been awfully good to me and I thought I’d give something back. Thank you, Dr. and Mrs. Hahn, for your commitment to the college. #MizzouGivingDay

Some doctors are really smart and some are really compassionate. If you’re lucky, you get one that’s both. Chloe got to have two - Dr. Mark Harmon and Dr. Lynds...ay Kong. When Chloe was diagnosed with heart disease 2.5 years ago, we were devastated! Our local vets did not give us much hope. We are so thankful for her faithful cardiologists who gave us so much extra time with her and kept her quality of life excellent. From office visits, to calls to email - they were so dedicated in their care. I looked through my Gmail threads and we had emailed them over 200 times. We could go on and on but will just say we can’t thank them enough for the compassion and care they gave Chloe (and us). MU VHC Cardiology Service

This is an angiographic video demonstrating the occlusion of a left-to-right shunting patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). An Amplatz Canine Duct Occluder (ACDO), a nitinol mesh device, is deployed across the PDA and prevents shunting of blood.
