Here is what we have been up to this fall at Missouri State!

Missouri State University Pride Bands 16.12.2020

The weather is going to cooperate with us today where we can still have the students perform. In looking at the forecast, we are moving up our start time to 1:45 to miss the rain expected to start later in the afternoon. Gates will open at 1:15. Parking is available in Lot 18 which is located across Grand from the stadium. Please share this message with your friends and family attending so they are there at this new start time. Safe travels here, and we are excited to see you!

For our final PRIDE Band Performance Series for the season tomorrow there is rain (possible thunderstorms) in the forecast. As those of us in Missouri have learned with weather to "wait and see" we are planning to move forward with our event in Plaster Stadium, which will start at 2 pm. Should the rain hit us tomorrow then we will move our performance to this Sunday (November 15) at 2 pm - still in Plaster Stadium. A final decision will be announced tomorrow morning as we re...ceive an updated forecast. The students have been working hard all season and we want them to have this final run of the music, drill, and choreography they have learned. We want to do all we can to give them this one last performance of the marching band season. As always, we appreciate your support of our PRIDE Band students. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you either tomorrow or Sunday.

On February 6, 2021 the University Bands at Missouri State will host our annual Conducting Workshop with featured clinician, Dr. Jack Delaney, Director of Bands and Conductor of the Meadows Wind Ensemble @ Southern Methodist University. Using masks, bell covers, social distancing, limited rehearsals slots, small chamber ensembles, multiple rooms, and all other COVID-19 protocols in place, we are thrilled to welcome 14 conducting participants to campus. We will have an unlimited number of FREE observer slots available to access the daily workshop (upon registration) via livestream. Our first priority is always keeping our faculty, students, and staff safe/healthy, but we also believe it is important to provide this event to the public! We hope you will join us in February! https://www.missouristate.edu//missouri-state-conducting.h

Thank you Col. Jason Fettig, conductor of the President’s Own Marine Band, for joining the MSU Wind Ensemble over Zoom today! This was a tremendous hour of conversation about leadership, music-making, repertoire, score study, and life. We are all better people after visiting with Col. Fettig! Hopefully we’ll get the band to town on their next Midwest tour.

During the second PRIDE Band Performance Series Event, we recognized our second generation PRIDE Band members who are carrying forward the legacy of their parents who were members of the PRIDE Band (formerly known as the Bruin Pride Band) while students at the university. Following the performance last night, our 2nd Generation PRIDE members (and their parents who were present) posed for a photo at the bear statue outside the stadium. We are proud of both our alums and our current PRIDE generation who follow the same path as their parents who marched before them. #GOBEARS #2ndGenerationPRIDEBand

The PRIDE will be performing selections from our season repertoire which includes parts of our 2020 main show, two PRIDE Band Classics (complete with music, choreography, and drill), and more! Tonight we will be in full uniform for the first time this season, and we are recognizing our 2nd generation members who continue the PRIDE Band legacy! Here are some details regarding this eveni...ng: *The event is open to the public at no charge. *Parking will be available in Lots 18 and 22, which are located directly across from the stadium south of Grand. *Because of when we have the stadium scheduled for band, gates will open at 5:45 pm. PLEASE do not arrive early. There will be ample seating for all. *The event begins at 6:00 pm, and is open to the public at no charge. Masks are strongly encouraged to be worn throughout the duration of the event and will be required in restrooms and other common areas. *Both the upper deck and lower deck will be available for spectators. *Because of university policy during this time, the only personnel allowed on the field are students and band staff. No one else is allowed to enter the field. We are, however, creating a gathering place in BEAR Plaza located on the north side of Plaster Stadium that extends to the lawn in front of McDonald Arena. Come greet your "favorite" PRIDE bandsmen in that area following their performance. Safe travels, and we look forward to seeing you tonight! #GOBEARS #MOSTATEPRIDEBAND2020 #PRIDEBANDPERFORMANCESERIES2020

IN-PERSON Wind Ensemble rehearsals started up last week! We are socially distanced, wearing masks, utilizing both rehearsal spaces and making GREAT music again in Wehr Band Hall. Shout out to our students/conducting graduate students for trusting and working together to make this possible for all. Their energy and preparation is tremendous; yesterday, the brass ensemble threw down a sightread of Herbert Haufrecht’s - Symphony for Brass and Timpani! Other works so far include, Mozart’s - Serenade in c minor, Schubert’s - Little Symphony for Winds, and Gabrieli’s - Canzon XV. Bravo to all!

Concert On The Green 2020

Missouri State University Pride Bands 30.05.2020

Our 300-member PRIDE Band finished a successful week of band camp learning new information, reaching rehearsal goals, making new friends, social distancing and being masked all in preparation for the 2020 marching season! With new events planned for the fall (which will be announced soon), as well as getting to do some familiar PRIDE Band performance traditions, the students are ready and excited for the semester! Instead of an in-person concert, we will be airing our pre-r...ecorded Concert-On-The-Green. Check back later today to see the hardwork these students have done for band camp as they present some of the music and choreography they learned. Though we would much rather see you in-person, in different times we find new ways to showcase our awesome students...even presenting Concert-On-The-Green virtually! Watch for more announcements coming soon regarding this fall season for the PRIDE Band! GO BEARS!

With our ability to social distance in our university stadium and function on a campus with a lot of space, we have modified and expanded the performance opportunities we can offer for students at Ozarko 2020. FOR 2020: we are offering bands the choice of a non-competitive component or competitive component. Bands selecting the non-competitive component will have a 25-minute performance slot where they can perform their show and then receive a clinic from clinicians in the ...areas of music, visual, and percussion. In the afternoon and evening hours we will offer the traditional prelims/finals format for those bands who have made the decision to have a competitive season. Also new this year, we are offering performance opportunities for color guards and drumlines which will happen in locations on our campus. Directors can select if they want their color guards and drumlines to perform in competition or for comments only. We will be working closely with our University Facilities Management and Health Department to ensure all guidelines are specified regarding social distancing and other pertinent safety measures. Safety on our campus is always a paramount concern. Directors: registration information will be posted soon on our band website at missouristate.edu/band. Come celebrate students at Ozarko 2020 through their band performances!
