I’ve always been drawn to the sense of place associated with the rural Midwest, where I grew up. It’s a sense very specific to the small town I call homethe structures there and the atmosphere that surrounds themand I’ve spent the last several years trying to capture that identity in my paintings." This live artwork event aims to welcome the community to gather as a collective to speak about current events and coping methods and to offer the reminder that you are not alone and your personal experiences matter.
Here are a few photos taken from @russ.bray 's photography series "I Can't Breathe," which was awarded Best in Show for the About a Mask virtual exhibition. "This phrase is a glimpse into both major issues occurring in America, used by a man struggling to breathe as he slowly fades away, but also used by citizens who feel that that phrase is enough reason to risk their lives and others by not wearing a mask. It is okay when the latter person says this phrase and is excused from following mandated orders that prevent the spread of sickness, but when the former man said this, no pressure was eased off of his neck. He did not get excused from the 8 minutes and 46 seconds of not being able to breathe that ended with his death." https://art-design.missouristate.edu//brickc/about-a-mask/
