BOOKWORM It is Still Here If you are anything like me, you might be feeling optimistic and like things are back to normal. Maybe, like me, you are vaccinated and feel like someday you will be able to take your mask off around everybody. Or, again, like me, you live in Morgan County or just Missouri in general and somehow the world hasn’t run quite as far off the tracks that it has everywhere else, like India, or even closer to home, Michigan. ...Continue reading

May 11: Happy Birthday, Martha Graham! (1893-1991) Martha Graham was born on May 11, 1893, and was a hugely influential American dancer during her long and illustrious career! We like to think that she'd get a kick out of "Frank was a Monster Who Wanted To Dance" about a friendly little monster who LOVES dancing so much, he just FALLS APART!... You can access Tumblebooks from the Electronic Resources section of our catalog. https://morgancounty.biblionix.com/catalog/
Staff Pick - Stacey I liked this book so much it inspired a bookworm. I enjoy biographies because I like to see the world through someone else's experiences. The family stories are raw and I think typical of kids of the 70's. The travels are not what I would enjoy, but I wish I did. McConaughey had son a great job staying kind and grounded while still in the spotlight. One of the stories he shares ended up at a remote campground. What an experience for him and those that were there! A great read! A great life!
We have some fun experiments for you to try on this S.T.E.A.M. Saturday!
BOOKWORM A Different Kind of Scarlet Letter On January 28, 2019, the Morgan County Library had their first Cancer Support Group Meeting. Our last meeting was on February 24, 2020. The group, known as the MOCO Warriors, has not disbanded, we have just fallen victim to COVID. The underlying condition issue is a gigantic factor for cancer survivors and no way am I going to risk getting a warrior sick. ...Continue reading
Staff Pick - Jessica One of the major YA releases this year was These Violent Delights by debut author Chloe Gong. The cover was what immediately attracted me. I am pleased to say that the book was even better than the cover. The story takes place in Shanghai during the 1920's. Our main characters are children of rival gang leaders who are constantly battling over control of Shanghai territories. In that way it's a bit of a Romeo and Juliet story though it's not heavy... on the romance. The greater focus of the story is the sudden appearance of a monster that seems to infect people somehow and cause them to tear their own throats. Our characters, Juliet and Roma, must find a way to deal with the monster and with each other or their entire city will suffer. I really liked this one. It was a fast read because it drew me in and made me want to keep reading. The characters were great in that they weren't necessarily great people who made the best decisions. They were all human beings who were a product of their past experiences and the lives foisted upon them by their parents. The deserved empathy as much as they deserved censure. It's a book I would definitely recommend to people. It's a great story with compelling characters and great writing. It's the first book in a series and I'm excited for the next one. See more
December 14: Official Lost and Found Day The second Friday in December is known as the Official Lost and Found Day! The holiday began in 2012 as a way to remind people not to give up on things that were lost... just like the kids in TumbleBooks' "Lost and Found" series!... You can access Tumblebooks from the Electronic Resources section of our catalog. https://morgancounty.biblionix.com/catalog/
December 13: Violin Day The violin is a beautiful stringed instrument that provides rich and diverse tones.... Reading about how Joshua Bell grew to love the Violin through one especially challenging piece in "The Dance of the Violin" is the perfect way to observe "Violin Day"!
