Please share this Spotlight on Black History moment with the kiddos

Montgomery City Christian Church 01.02.2021

It's Black History Month in the U.S., a time to celebrate and remember that Black history is a part of everyone's history. This month reminds us that we serve a... creative God who made every one of us in His image and calls each of us His masterpiece. By celebrating and listening to Black voices, we remember that unity is never uniformity, and every part of the body of Christ is essential. So join us in celebrating the voices of Black pastors and Christian leaders, starting with Pastor Michael Todd from Transformation Church

Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" often referred to as the Black national anthem is a song written as a poem by James Weldon Johnson (18711938) in 1900 and set to... music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson (18731954) in 1905. "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing" was publicly performed first as a poem as part of a celebration of Abraham Lincoln's birthday by Johnson's brother John. In 1919, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) dubbed it "the Negro national hymn" for its power in voicing a cry for liberation and affirmation for African-American people. The song is a prayer of thanksgiving for faithfulness and freedom, with imagery evoking the biblical Exodus from slavery to the freedom of the "promised land". "Lift Every Voice and Sing" is featured in 39 different Christian hymnals, and is sung in churches, instutions and Organizations across America.

Love God. Love neighbor. This seemingly simple commandment can be difficult in practice, but it is our holy calling.
